Guest Post: My Open Sketchbook

Hey, friends! I'm taking the week off (except for Wednesday) because I've been so busy,
but I have an awesome line-up of guest posts for you this week!

Hello! I'm Kayly, and I blog over at My Open Sketchbook. When Sara contacted me about a guest post,  I jumped at the chance to share two of my biggest passions: Art, and my fandoms! Fan art was what started me down the path of art; I was eleven years old and fell in love with drawing Sailor Moon characters. I think fan art is such a great way for people to share their fandom love, and today I wanted to showcase a few of my favorite fan artists!

Her designs are just stunning. I'm a huge fan of art nouveau, and her work combines some of my favorite fandoms with gorgeous art nouveau style. I own so many t-shirts, and even a couple prints of her work.

I love the wit behind Karen Hallion's work. She has such clever mashups!

Alice has some of the most beautiful digital art I've ever seen. Her style is so fluid, and I love how painterly it is.

Ashley Cole is the owner and artist behind this Etsy shop, and her works are filled with great design. As a book lover, I'm a huge fan of her prints and the selection she has in her shop is just great!

I love fanart, both creating it and sharing it with other people. Right now, I'm having a giveaway on my blog to win some of my original fanart sketches! Below are the six pieces to choose from, and I'll be selecting two winners! You have until the end of May to enter, so click here to go to the giveaway!

Inspiration: Tattoos (Pt. 6)

It seems I can't stop collecting pictures of tattoos. Although I've personally never wanted one, I love all forms of art, and tattoos can be just as gorgeous as a drawing, photograph, or sculpture. January Photo A Day Challenge

As you know, last month I participated in Chantelle's Photo A Day Challenge, and I have to say I really like the pictures I took. I'm by no means the best photographer in the world, but I tried to take pictures that captured a moment; a certain action or emotion or part of my day. And I think I accomplished that for the most part. What do you think?

Since I'm back in school now, I won't be continuing the challenge until possibly May or June.

Today // Something new (via giveaway) // Heart

The view from here // Movement (fun installation!) // Mine

Street // Something beginning with "T" // Paper

 One o'clock (staring at a co-worker's pizza) // Rain // Surprise

Circle // Something yellow // An ordinary moment

Two things // Ready (for work) // Shadow

Delicious // Something you saw (The Words is amazing!) // What you do (I write)

Corner // (The opposite of...) Electric // Stripes

Landscape // Together (my little sister and I) // Sun

Through (the stacks at the library) // Grow // Down

Yourself

Did you do the photo a day challenge?

Etsy Faves

My first class of the semester is tonight! Even at 23 and even after having what feels like a million first days of school, I still get nervous. There's the dreaded class introduction where everyone has to say their name, why they're there, and other random bits of useless information, as well as the receiving of the syllabus, where I look at it and panic because there's so much to do.

At least I know people who are going to be in the class, so we can all struggle together! Ha! Novel workshop, here I come!

Perfect for Valentine's Day! (And every other day of the year)

Great for these drying winter months

Perfect for a glasses-loving girl like me!

YES!

Love the color

A classy way to send mail

Inspiration: Tattoos (Pt. 5)

Only a week left until school! It's kind of blowing my mind how fast (and at times how incredibly slow) this month has gone by already. This is no doubt going to be the toughest semester for me because I know how much work will have to go into it. I'm going to be reading twice the amount I'm used to because of the novel workshop (instead of handing in up to 25 pages, people can hand in 40 or 50) and I'm a little worried about it, but knowing myself I'll be able to handle it by organizing my time properly. Wish me luck! (And if there's any unexpected blog breaks, you'll know why! lol)

 Love this beautiful fox tattoo

Love this cute idea

Love this simple but powerful tattoo

Love the "serendipity" font

"The people you love become ghosts inside of you and like this you keep them alive."

Which ones do you like?
Do you have tattoos of your own?
