Watch | Read | Listen {January 2014} + Bonlook Instagram Contest

I'm changing my Movies I Want To See blog posts at the beginning of every month into something that encompasses all entertainment -- movies, books, and music! Every month, I'll pick a bunch of each that I'm really excited about or that I think look really good to show you guys. Of course these picks are based mostly on my tastes, but I'll try to branch out for everyone. Let me know what you think of this new idea!

MOVIES

The Legend of Hercules
Based on the legend we all know, this movie follows Hercules (Kellan Lutz), the demigod son of Zeus, who is betrayed by his royal stepfather (Scott Adkins) and must battle his way back from exile and slavery. (January 10)

Her
A lonely writer (Joaquin Phoenix) develops an unlikely and perhaps unhealthy relationship with his newly purchased operating system that is designed to meet his every need. This film sounds strange, but also really interesting. (January 10)

Seventh Son

The story is about Tom Ward (Ben Barnes), a seventh son of a seventh son, who becomes the apprentice of a Spook (Jeff Bridges), a man who rids the local villages of evil. Also starring Julianne Moore, Djimon Hounsou, and Kit Harrington. (See the outfits inspired by the book here!) (January 17)

The Nut Job
A mischievous squirrel named Surly (Will Arnett) is kicked out of the park, forcing him to survive on the city streets. With the help of his rat friend Buddy (Eric Bauza), Surly plans a nut store heist of epic proportions that will help with the survival of the park community. This looks so cute and fun! (January 17)

I, Frankenstein
Based on the well-known novel, Victor Frankenstein's monster, self-named Adam Frankenstein (Aaron Eckhart), gets caught up in an ancient war between two immortal clans. (January 25)

BOOKS & MUSIC
Books & Music -- January 2014
Hollow City by Ransom Riggs -- The second novel after Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children continues Jacob's unusual journey with his new friends in 1940. These novels combine YA horror-fantasy and vintage photographs. Definitely on my must read list! (January 14)

The Splendour Falls by Susanna Kearsley -- This story follows Emily Braden as she explores the ancient legendary town of Chinon and begins to uncover dark secrets about the 13th century castle that looms over the city. (January 14)

Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen -- A widow, Kate, and her daughter find healing at a quirky summer resort on Lost Lake run by her eccentric great-aunt Eby. There Kate interacts with her great-aunt's oddball guests. (January 21)

That Old Black Magic by Mary Jane Clark -- This novel is full of suspense, murder, mayhem, and voodoo. Aspiring actress and wedding-cake decorator, Piper Donovan believes she can unmask the killer since he's creepy clues. (January 21)

Switchfoot's Fading West (Jan. 14) | Jennifer Nettle's That Girl (Jan. 14)
Bruce Springstreen's High Hopes (Jan. 14) | Young the Giant's Mind Over Matter (Jan. 21)

Review: Firmoo Glasses

I was recently contacted by Firmoo to get a free pair of glasses and of course I was super excited! I love my glasses, but it's always nice having an extra pair and being able to switch between them. Although I wanted my new glasses in tortoise, they didn't have it when I was ordering, so I picked them in a lovely shade of brown instead.

It was so easy to order my glasses: I already had my prescription on hand and my mom measured my pupilary distance (which is important since each person's PD is different), and then I clicked to get them. All I had to do was wait. After the order went through, I was a little surprised to see that the glasses were coming from China and it took over two weeks for me to receive them.

When they did arrive not only did I get the glasses, but it came with a hard case, a yellow glasses-cleaning cloth, and a little screwdriver in order to repair my glasses. Very handy!

Firmoo has a great program: the First Pair Free program! Get your first pair of glasses for free by only paying for shipping. Sounds like a great deal to me! They also have a virtual try-on system to ensure that the glasses will fit your face.

Firmoo also has a fashion eyewear community called Firmoo+ that focuses on styling eyewear and clothes.

P.S. -- Check out make up tips for glasses-wearing gals!

I've worn eyeglasses since I was twelve and I can't imagine not wearing them; they're like a part of my body in a way. So I love finding new places to check out cool but cheap glasses since I don't want to spend a fortune on them.

They have plain glasses for if you're just a casual glasses-wearer and they also have very trendy glasses too. The glasses may be inexpensive, but they certainly don't look it. I really like the selection they have and definitely saved some to my favorites folder!

Here's a few of my faves...
How cool are those studs?
{Spy Jared Black}

Loving this purple color.

Make Up for Girls in Glasses

I've heard many things about how to do make up when you wear glasses; some say don't wear color, some say do, some say this, some say that. There's heaps of advice out there, and while you can't and shouldn't follow everyone's advice, you should at least hear them out. Then do what you feel is best for you and what best fits to your sense of style.

Of course I want my eyes to look their best, especially when covered by glasses, but I always do what is best for me.

Here's some great make up advice for glasses wearers...

Stay In Neutral Territory: "Wearing glasses draws plenty of attention to your eyes, so it’s best to keep your eye makeup simple. Stick to neutral shades on the eyes but remember to blend a darker color into your crease for added definition. Save the bright, bold colors for your lips. Of course, don’t forget corrector and concealer—a must for all women, but especially if you’re wearing glasses."

I've heard time again that you shouldn't wear colorful eyeshadow if you wear glasses,
but unless your glasses are a bright color, do what you want! It will bring attention
to your beautiful eyes! (More on this further down the page.)
Don’t Be Afraid of Mascara: "Most of the time I suggest applying 2-3 coats of mascara to really make eyes stand out. Always use black mascara, it makes the biggest difference.

Get In Line: "Adjusting the thickness of your liner is important when you’re wearing glasses," says Brown. "If your frames are thicker, you’ll want to apply a thicker line to the upper lash line so that eyes stand out. If your frames are thinner, a softer liner works."

I Can See Clearly Now

...the rain is gone that my new glasses have arrived.

I was hesitant to get new glasses from an online store, but I really wanted a second pair that I could wear when I don't feel like wearing my pinkish-gray wire frames. I searched through the glasses at BonLook, Lookmatic, and Warby Parker, and ended up going with this pair from BonLook. The whole process was super easy because all I had to do was give them my prescription, which I got from my doctor, and then because I live in New York I had to give them the name of my doctor and her phone number. I paid for it, it shipped for free (awesome!) and they arrived very quickly.

In the pictures they look black, but they are actually a dark blue.

They are also a realistic version of the glasses I work here.

What do you think?
