Ah, jury duty. Last week it was the bane of my existence. I got a summons to the federal courthouse on Pearl St. in Manhattan. I went in last Monday, thinking I would be called for a civil case that would take a few days before being dismissed. But no, I was called to possibly be a juror on a criminal case that might last up to eight weeks.
I told the judge on Tuesday that I have class at the end of August and that I'm working on my thesis, but he told me to take a seat instead of excusing me. I was bummed that the last month of my vacation would no longer be a vacation, but on Wednesday, after literally waiting all day, he told 18 of the jurors that they were excused. And I was one of them! I'm not going to take it personally that the lawyers didn't like me. You have no idea how relieved I am!
Now that I'm no longer a juror, I can tell you that it was this fraud case.

Anyway, I wore this black dress (with a navy cardigan) on the second day of jury duty to be comfortable since all I did was sit all day. I would either sit and read in the hallway while we waited, or sit and stare at the judge and lawyers (and try not to fall asleep) in the courtroom.
Haha my boyfriend had to go into jury duty last week and he said it was miserable! He had some funny stories to share from it, at least.
ReplyDeleteVery true! I have a lot of funny stories!
DeleteOh, I'm so glad that you were able to avoid beinon a jury for eight weeks, what a miserable way to spend your summer that would have been! I love the outfit you put together for your days in court, though - you can never go wrong with a classic LBD, and that cutout detail on the back is really cute :)

I live in fear of jury duty. Although, the chances of me falling asleep are high, and I doubt that will be attractive in the selection process xD This outfit looks super cute and comfy to make it through the day though. One day. Not 8 weeks.
ReplyDeleteWatch, now that I've said this, I'll get summoned next week.
Hahaha, well I hope you aren't summoned!
Deleteyay i'm glad they didn't pick you! the first time i got a notice for jury duty i was in etown so i sent a notice that i couldn't do it. a year later i got another notice. i had to call every day for a week to and the message machine would say which numbers had to come in, and i never did, yay! that sucks you had to go all the way down there but that's good you don't have to do it.
ReplyDeleteA bunch of people said they had to call the week before they had to go in. I wish I only had to call.
DeleteI had jury duty there too when I lived in the city! I also got dismissed from the case though since it was too close to an incident that happened to my sister.

I think I'm the only person in the world who wouldn't mind being on a jury. You know, as long as I had nothing else going on at the moment! haha At least you looked cute and comfy while being there! I love this dress and your bag!

I actually wouldn't have minded being on the jury either, but I was worried about it interfering with school. Otherwise it actually seemed like an interesting case.
Deletelove that look. I can relate and I hope you make the best out of the rest of your vacay time ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteSO lucky! That wouldn't be any fun being stuck with that for so long. Loving those flats on you!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!

Not a great occasion, but I love the look!
ReplyDeleteThat's strange and quite a trek for jury duty, haha!
ReplyDeleteWhat a close call! Glad you got outta there :) Cute outfit!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Me too!
Deleteahh i've been called twice now but have always had a legit excuse. You know part of me wants to be a juror but then the other part realises it would be super boring 99% of the time and nobody wants to have to do something other than fun things on holiday time!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree! I would be interested in the trial at first and then I would want it to be over lol!
DeleteNope, I've never been called to jury duty! My mom has a couple of times, but she got excused because she was friends with the county prosecutor. :) My dad has actually been on a jury twice, I think. I actually need to re-register to vote. (I'm currently registered in Iowa, and have now moved to Indiana.) It'd be a tad hard to serve on a jury in a state I no longer live in, haha. At least you looked adorable while you waited around! From what my parents told me, jury duty days do make for long days...
ReplyDeleteThanks! My dad was on jury duty a couple times too. Once he was even the foreman (the person who gives the verdict), so that's cool.
Deletetoo bad the thesis didn't absolve you of these duties but girl you are looking outrageously cute in this jury duty ensemble!! love the cut out back on your dress and those golden kicks rule for sure! ♥
ReplyDeleteCute Look!
