Outfit: Slice Magazine Literary Conference

I attended Slice Magazine's Literary Conference this past weekend in Brooklyn. I went two years and was excited when I had the chance to go again on a scholarship. A bunch of other City College MFA students also went, so it was nice seeing friendly faces there. It was a two-day conference with panels about self-publishing, finessing your query letter to agents, about what it's like to have a book deal, and so much more.

There were many authors, agents, and editors in attendance, but the one name that most people know is Francine Prose. She's published numerous novels and non-fiction works, but her most well-known is Reading Like A Writer, After, and Anne Frank: The Book, The Life, The Afterlife. It was so wonderful hearing her talk about characters; she talks so fluidly that you can tell from the first sentence she spoke that she is a writer.

Plus, Francine Prose is pretty bad ass! In response to a question about women juggling so many things, her response was that a woman can do anything she wants, and that women shouldn't feel bad about writing when they have other things to do. If writing is important to you, make it important. She acknowledged that life would be different if her name was Bill, but that doesn't mean she can't do the same things as a man. Hear, hear, Francine!

Anyway, I wore this blazer, these shoes, and the watch to brighten up and add interest to a plain t-shirt and jeans outfit. I wanted to be comfortable since I knew I would be sitting all day.
