You all know that I'm a huge Harry Potter nerd (it's what made me want to write in the first place), so I'm not sure why I didn't create an Inspired By post around the story before now! There's so much wonderful inspiration in the world of Harry Potter, so I thought I would start with the easiest: the Hogwarts Houses! If you want me to do outfits inspired by individual characters, I will make that happen!
If you've never read the books or seen the movies, Hogwarts is the magical school in England that Harry Potter and his friends attend. The students of Hogwarts are divided into four houses (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin). On the first night of their arrival, all students are called to put on the Sorting Hat, which tells them which house they will be in based on their personality.
Gryffindor
Gryffindor, famous for being the house of Albus Dumbedore and Harry Potter, values courage, bravery, and chivalry, with the lion being its mascot. Gryffindors stand up for each other and even for those outside of their own house when they need to. Some would say that their fearlessness is stupidity, but being in Gryffindor doesn't mean they are fearless; it means they are brave in the face of fear.
Wear Gryffindors colors (scarlet and gold) by putting on a floral scarf, a yellow striped sweater, jeans, a lion ring, a red and gold bracelet, and red flats. Or instead wear a red dress with a warm yellow cardigan, gold jewelry, a lion necklace, and black booties.
Hufflepuff
Hufflepuffs value hard work, justice, and loyalty, with their mascot being the badger. They may not have a Gryffindor's bravery, but they will still stand up for each other and be there when a friend needs them most. Hufflepuff's are known for being the quietest of the bunch, but really they speak when they have something important to say.
The house colors are canary yellow and black, so wear a bright yellow tank, black jeans, lots of cute bracelets, and nude flats. Or to add some femininity, don a ruffled yellow dress, an open black cardigan, floral bracelet, and strappy heels.
Ravenclaw
Ravenclaws value intelligence, creativity, and wit, with the eagle as their mascot. They want to learn as much as they can, and use their knowledge to help others when they can. Ravenclaws are sometimes considered know-it-alls, but wanting to learn and grow is never a bad thing.
Ravenclaws colors are blue are bronze (they're blue and gray in the films), so wear a blue blazer, a polka dot cream-colored blouse, jeans, an eagle ring, stackable bracelets, and bronze metallic flats. Or put on a blue shirt dress, a feather necjlace, stone bracelets, and crochet oxford flats.
Slytherin
Slytherins, famous for being the house of Voldemort and Severus Snape, value ambition, cunning, and resourcefulness, with the snake as their mascot. Slytherin has a bad reputation for being the house that has produced the most evil, but not all Slytherins are bad. Being ambitious and crafty is not a bad thing, and not all Slytherins are only out for themselves.
I would definitely be a Hufflepuff!
What about you?
