Inspired By: The 2015 Met Gala

Did you see the dresses that celebrities and fashion icons wore to this year's Met Gala? Wow! This year's theme was Chinese Whispers: Tales of the East in Art, Film, and Fashion, and there were a ton of beautiful and intricate dresses on the Met red carpet that it was hard picking which ones I wanted to create outfits based on. In the end, I went with these four classic meets modern looks.

Hailee Steinfeld
Hailee Steinfeld
Hailee Steinfeld's classic red dress fits her beautifully and I wish I could steal this dress and wear it myself. Try a look that's a bit more bohemian with a V-neck maxi dress, gold collar necklace, gold and wooden bangles, and strappy black heels. Or go for a classic look in a bright red dress with gold bracelets, a red clutch, and black pumps.

Gong Li
Gong Li
Gong Li's black lace and burgundy velvet dress is stunning and shows off her beautiful shape. Since it's more suited to fall and winter, I did away with the velvet and played up the lace. If you love burgundy as much as I do then throw on this lace wine-colored dress, black ear cuff, and brown platform heels. Or put on a more classic look with a black lace dress, dangly black earrings, silver rings, an embellished clutch, and burgundy heels.

Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle Union's magenta dress is modern and fun with it's sheer cut-outs. Wear a more casual look inspired by her Union's dress: a short-sleeved fuschia dress with magenta lipstick, cage rings, wedges, and a gold clutch. Or go for a sleek part look in a one-shoulder maxi dress, a leaf ring, and nude sandals.

Diana Agron
Diana Argon
Diana Argon's dress fits perfectly with the Chinese Whispers theme without overdoing it. It's classy and feminine and yet also bold due to the crane embellishments. Wear something fun: a brocade white romper, bird earrings, leaf hair pins, and nude wedges. Or go for a feminine look in a white embellished dress, silver earrings, a turquoise ring, and red bow heels.

Whose dress from the Met Gala was your favorite?

  2. Great picks, Sara! I love how you made each look just a little less fancy for us non-celebs! I would have absolutely nowhere to wear those gowns, but plenty of occasions for the looks you put together.
