Watch | Read | Listen {April 2014}

Last month, I saw Divergent, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Mr. Peabody and Sherman, and all were absolutely wonderful. Divergent was just as I imagined when I read the book, plus it was fast-paced and emotional. The only word I would use to describe The Grand Budapest Hotel is delightful. It was funny and charming and I already want to watch it again. I saw Mr. Peabody and Sherman with my 9-year-old sister with a giant bucket of popcorn, and I really enjoyed it. It was funny and cute and pretty smart for a kid's movie.

P.S. -- I'm a part of Chels & The City's Annual Fashion Week this year!

Movies I Want To See (April 2013)

This month, I'm most interested in a mind-boggling thriller, an movie about everyday encounters, an indie comedy about the end of the world, and a blockbuster about the remains of our society. Last month, I saw Oz The Great and Powerful and it was absolutely stunning to look at, but some of the acting was subpar at times, which I thought was strange considering they're usually great actors. If you saw it, what did you think?

Also, Happy April Fool's Day! Are you pulling any pranks on anyone?

Trance
This thriller is about Simon (James McAvoy), a fine art auctioneer who teams up with a criminal gang to steal a Goya painting with millions, but when he suffers a blow to the head  during the heist he can't remember where he hid the painting. The gang's leader (Vincent Cassel) wants answers, so he hires a hypnotherapist (Rosario Dawson) to delve into the recesses of his brain to find the answer, but truth and suggestion begin to blur. This has an interesting premise and I'm a fan of McAvoy, but the movie could get confusing. (April 5)

Disconnect
Strangers, neighbors, and colleagues' disseperate lives come together in this riveting tale about ordinary lives in today's ever-connected world. A lawyer who's always connected to his cell phone can't communicate with his family. A couple is drawn to a dangerous situation when their credit card is stolen. A widowed ex-cop struggles to raise a son who is cyberbullying a classmate. And a journalist sees a story in a teen who makes money on an adult-only site. This reminds me of the amazing film Crash, and it looks so dramatic and intense. (April 12)

It's A Disaster
This screwball comedy is about eight friends meeting for their monthly couples brunch, but it soon turns to something else when they discover that the city nearby may have been catastrophically attached. Trapped in the house and unsure if they're going to die any moment, these normal people go stir crazy in increasingly unhinged and revealing results. Starring Julia Stiles, Erinn Hayes, David Cross, America Ferrara, and more. (April 12 in limited release)

Oblivion
In 2073, former Marine Commander Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairment stationed on Earth, which was nearly destroyed by an alien invasion 60 years ago. His orders are to extract the remaining vital resources from the planet. Just before he completes his mission, he rescues a woman (Olga Kurylenko), discovers that people are still living on the planet led by Malcolm Beech (Morgan Freeman), and questions the society that he is a part of. (April 19)

Other movies coming out in April:
  • 6 Souls (April 5)
  • Evil Dead (April 5)
  • No Place on Earth (April 5)
  • Simon Killer (April 5)
  • 42 (April 12)

Movies I Want To See (April 2012)

Last month, I actually saw three out of the six movies I listed (The Hunger Games, John Carter, and Mirror Mirror). Sadly, Mirror Mirror wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be, but it was still fun and cute.

Anyway, forget February; April is the month of love. Titanic, Take Me Home, Blue Like Jazz, The Lucky One, & The Five-Year Engagement. They're all coming out this month, so when April showers start you can hide out in a movie theatre and fall in love.

Titanic in 3D
The classic story of love found and lost aboard the iconic Titanic, starring of course Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Who doesn't love this movie and tear up at the end? (April 4)

The Hunter
Martin (Willem Dafoe), a mercenary, is hired to delve deep into the Tasmanian wilderness in order to search for a tiger that is believed to be extinct. Why does this anonymous company need this tiger's DNA? Is he going to find the tiger? What's going to happen if he does or does not? It looks intriguing. (April 6)

Take Me Home
A cab driver named Thom decides to drive a woman from New York to California (for a price, of course). This romantic comedy looks funny and realistic; the trailer made me feel like I was glimpsing someone else's life. (April 9)

The Three Stooges
Larry, Curly, and Moe's newest adventure as they try to solve a murder while landing on a reality TV show. You can't go wrong with these three. (April 13)

96 Minutes
A carjacking creates chaos for four teens about to graduate from high school. Like Crash but with teens, the film moves between what's happening in the car and what occured earlier in the day. As we get to know these kids, we see who they are and how they ended up in the car. (April 17)

The Five-Year Engagement
This movie looks absolutely hilarious. If you don't believe me, check out the trailer HERE. Starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt as the couple that just can't seem to get married. I love both of these actors and I can't wait to see this! (April 27)
