Interview with Amanda of Jamberry Nails + Giveaway!

Let's get to know Amanda Thompson, an independent consultant for Jamberry Nails
Amanda is a mom to three kids and a newborn. She's passionate about Jamberry Nail Wraps because they help her support her family and allow her to be her own boss. They are a fraction of the cost of a salon visit, have no harsh chemicals, are made in America, are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, and cause no damage to your natural nail. With over 350 style options to choose from there is something for everyone.

INTERVIEW

You're an independent consultant for Jamberry. How did you get into it? What have you learned about being your own boss because of Jamberry?

I was introduced to Jamberry by a friend from high school. I have always loved nails and having my nails done so when I saw it was a cost effective way to have super cute nails, I joined! Who doesn't want a 30% discount? Then when I found out I could use the opportunity to help empower other women and bring in an income while staying home with my children, I was definitely sold.

One of the things that I have learned about being my own boss is that you have to prioritize your time. It is so crucial for me to sit down, look at my day, and pick out what the priorities are, especially with a 5-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a newborn! There are days I will wake up with my kids, get them ready for school, and the next thing I know it's bedtime, it's like the day has completely escaped me. This has also driven me to learn how to manage my time better.

What's the best thing about being a Jamberry consultant? What's the worst?

The best thing about being a Jamberry consultant is the freedom I have. I don't have to have an inventory to bog me down and I can put as much or as little time into it as I need. Right now, I have decreased the time since I just had a baby, but I plan on slowly incorporating more of my time back into it until I am back to where I need to be. I also love the sisterhood environment within Jamberry and having cute nails, that is a definite plus!

The worst, hmm, that is a hard question. I think the worst thing for me is that there is such a plethora of resources available for me to use in my business and feeling like I don't have enough time to help everyone. I seriously have the attention span of a corn flake, so I will log in for one thing and I will get distracted by something else and then something else and then here I am and I have forgotten to answer my original question. Another issue I have is that I want so many of the nail wraps, but that would require me changing them every few days and I like to get the full use out of them!

You're a cancer survivor. (Go, you, for beating cancer!) How has your life changed because of it?

One of the biggest things that has changed in my life is my ability to see the important things and appreciate the little things in life. I used to be a very impatient person and get upset over some of the smallest stuff. Now I have to evaluate and see is it worth the time for me to emotionally invest or is it something I can move on from? It has freed my life from much worry, stress, and unnecessary drama. If it's not productive and doesn't add some value, I don't deal with it.

What's one place you've always wanted to visit?

I am such a huge Anglophile, so the one place I have always wanted to visit is England. I would love to start in London and just make my way across the country. One of the places that I look forward to visiting the most is Stanage Edge in Derbyshire where the scene from Pride and Prejudice (2005) was filmed as Elizabeth looked over the cliff and took in the world.
Do you have a favorite book? A favorite author?

I have so many books that I read on a yearly basis, but I would have to say that my favorite book is Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. I love Chiyo/Sayuri and her story as she keeps reaching for her happiness and all of the antagonists she faces along the way. Plus, the beautiful love story that is weaved between the Chairman and her hooks me every time.

I would have to say that my favorite author is Jane Austen. I adore the way she writes and uses it to express her opinion on social standings of women in that day. One of my favorite characters she created is Mrs. Bennett. Her tendency to be over the top and only care about herself rather than the happiness of her daughters makes me love/hate her character more.

Do you have any tips for people looking to either be their own boss or become a Jamberry consultant?

I think the biggest tip that I could give is to find something you love and be passionate about it. When you find something that you love, work will never feel like work. Waking up and loving what you do is one of the best feelings in the world. For me this applies well beyond Jamberry and into other areas of life as well!

What are some of your life goals?

Some of my life goals are to finish my college degree, start a successful blog, write a novel, visit every continent, and make sure my children learn to make a difference and positive impact in their dealings with the world. I also want to help motivate and inspire others in their lives as well.

How do you stay inspired? Any tips?

One of the ways I stay inspired is by writing down my goals and my vision and putting them in front of me so I can be reminded of them. In all of the everyday dealings of life we can get so swept away by many different obligations, monkey wrenches, and other things that come along and it can be easy to lose sight of what you really need to do. I have started to even apply this to what I need to accomplish daily by writing a list by priority and putting the list in a place where I can see it. Having the ability to help others and have fun with my business inspires me. Another way I stay inspired is by thinking of my children because I would do anything in the world for them.

Sponsor Roundup

I don't usually do sponsor introductions this way, but sadly life got too busy and I didn't have time to complete the posts I wanted to for today and tomorrow and I didn't want to do a half-assed job (does anyone else think of half-fast commercials now when someone says half-assed?). If you like having sponsor roundups like this I would love to know!

This month I have fantastic sponsors and I'm so excited to share them with you!

Amanda Thompson of Jamberry Nails
Hey I'm Amanda. I'm a wife to a wonderful husband, a mom to three great kids with number four coming in July, and an oral cancer survivor. After going through cancer treatment, it limited my ability to work in the field I use to. Then I found something I could be passionate about, stand behind, and most importantly help support my family with. Jamberry Nail Wraps are high quality, vinyl, heat and pressure sealed nail wrap that can last up to two weeks on fingers and four weeks on toes. They are a fraction of the cost of a salon visit, have no harsh chemicals, are made in America, are vegan friendly and cruelty free, and cause no damage to your natural nail. With over 350 style options to choose from there is something for everyone.

Simply Chic Jewelry
I'm Rachel and I reside in St Louis, MO. I currently work on my jewelry in my spare time: after work and on the weekends. My plan is to have at least one new item up every weekend. Simply Chic Jewelry was started out of inspiration of two things: color and the need for simple pieces. I work in an office environment and I did not want to wear any large statement pieces. I wanted simple, but colorful and chic, items that I could wear to spruce up my work wardrobe. I use a lot of Swarovski crystals and gemstones. I'm attracted to sparkly things! What girl isn't, right? I noticed that I had a lot of supplies and wanted to do something about it. That's when I officially started on pieces for my shop. Simply Chic was an idea I had in Jan 2014 but I finally made it come to fruition. It's exciting!

Unique Vintage
Created out of one girl's love for vintage clothing, Unique Vintage is here to serve like-minded retro and vintage-inspired fashion finds. Since true vintage items are not that easy to come by, on a whim Katie added some vintage-inspired dresses and before she could say retro-tastic, orders began flooding her inbox! So Katie did what any business savvy girl would do and focused on Unique Vintage full time. Unique Vintage has also become a go-to for many celebrities and fashion stylists. Some of the shows UV items have popped up on are Glee, Pretty Little Liars, American Horror Story, Vampire Diariesand True Blood

We've also recently launched the #iamunique campaign that's all about expressing your own unique style, embracing our unique bodies, and empowering one another through the love of all things vintage and retro-inspired.

Outfit: Mermaid Tales (with Jamberry Nails) + Giveaway

This past weekend I went to BookCon (more on this soon!). Prior to this I had never been to a convention, but I knew that I would be holding a lot of papers, maybe some books, and finagling with my camera to take pictures, so I wanted my nails to remain perfect and chip-free. I decided to wear my Mermaid Tales Jamberry Nails, courtesy of the wonderful Amanda Thompson who is a Jamberry consultant.

These nail wraps are adorable with their metallic ombre and white scallops to create the mermaid scales. I switched it up and had three Jamberry nails and two emerald nails (Zoya's Giovanna). They're so easy to apply. Curious how to do it? See my previous Jamberry Nails review here

Review: Jamberry Nails

I've seen Jamberry nail wraps on other blogs and came close to buying some wraps a few times, but I wasn't sure if they were worth it or not. Are they easy to apply as people claim? Do they really stay on for more than a week? So you can imagine how happy I was when Amanda Thompson, a Jamberry Nails Independent Consultant, emailed me to talk about Jamberry nails and how she's writing a novel too.

Amanda is wonderful and sent me a whole application kit, a mini heater, and Jamberry nail wraps of my choice, so I went with these lovely floral ones called Sweet Nothing

I set everything out and then watched these two application videos to ensure I applied it correctly. And you know what? It's super easy!

Here's the process:
1. Clean your nails with an alcohol wipe.
 2. Push back your cuticles.
 3. Match your nail to the wrap that fits best (easy to do since the wraps are on clear plastic).
 4. Cut the nail wrap in half.
 5. Hold it in front of the heater, or a hair dryer, for 3-5 seconds.
 6. Press onto your nail.
 7. Cut excess with scissors and file the edge of your nail with a nail file.
 8. Hold your nail in front of the heater again to make sure the nail is bonded.

It might sound complicated, but once you heat, trim, and file one or two nails you get the hang of it. From beginning to end, the whole process took me about 20 minutes. The bonus is that I didn't have to wait for my nails to dry after.
So how well did they stay on? I would give them an 9 out of 10. They stayed on my nails really well and don't feel heavy or weird. I took a point away because after three days the sides of the nail wraps did start to come up a little bit, but it's an easy fix with more heat or some clear nail polish. I kept them on for over a week and only took them off because my nails were starting to show at the edge (my nails grow very fast).

I'm already planning on getting more Jamberry nail wraps! These are a few of my favorites: Mermaid Tales, Bon Voyage, Metallic Chrome Silver, and Crash Art
