Inspiration: Nail Art

Lately I've been so lazy when it comes to doing my nails. I keep wanting to paint my nails, but never actually get around to it. Maybe I've just been lacking inspiration. So of course I went to Pinterest! The nail art below is fun and colorful, but not too complicated, and now I really want to paint my nails a mixture of subdued colors and bright neon!

Any nail art ideas? What color are your nails today?

DIY: Art Deco(ish) Nails

I figured I would call these nails "art deco" because of the triangles, but for some reason the color combination of pale blue and gold also screams 1920s art deco to me. Luckily, it is extremely easy to do if you're looking to spice up your nails.

Reverse French Nails

I have another diy nail idea for you guys! And it's actually really easy! The only thing you need are two nail polish colors; one light, one dark.

I used two coats of a light turquiose color and then two coats of a royal blue. When painting the darker color, start slightly further back from the base of the nail and gently curl the nail brush on either side and then fill in the rest. Once dry, use a top coat.

Royal blue // New York Color's Pier 17

Polka Dot Nails

I painted my nails red with Milani's Bet on Red (a dark, slightly shimmery scarlet) a few days ago, but when I got my new dotting tools in the mail (I got these) I knew I had to test them out. I'm not very adept at nail art, so I did something very simple -- polka dots!

As you can see, on my middle fingers I did something a little different. I used the largest dotting tool to create bigger dots next to each other. When the lighter pink had dried, I did the same with the darker pink to create a scalloped edge.

Next time I'll probably do either all dots or all scalloped edges, and I prefer the dark pink dots on the red.

What do you think?

DIY: Neon & Black Nails

Inspired by the picture below, I decided to try my hand (ha!) at replicating this interesting nail art. I like how it's somewhat art deco because of its shape, the neon color makes it bright while the black tones it down, and a little bit of exposed nail makes it unique. It reminds me of a more colorful, oddly-shaped French Manicure.

My version...

I used a bright neon pink because I don't have neon yellow and because it's nearly Valentine's Day.

I used blue painter's tape to make my lines straight. I placed strips of tape over my nail at an angle
and painted the pink first. I did two coats, waited for it to dry, then pealed the tape off.

Then I used the same tape stripes, angled them the other way, and painted the black side.
Two coats and then peeled them off, and finished with a clear top coat when dry.
It's not perfect, but I'm really liking the results. Plus, it was super easy to do.

What do you think?
