Inspiration: Jewel Tone Nails + Bloggers Think Pink

I'm officially putting away my hot pinks, corals, mints, and light blues and taking out my burgundy, navy, olive green, black, gray, plum, and metallic nail polish. During fall and the beginning of winter, I love wearing dark and jewel toned nail polish colors. It's fun to make my nails go goth after months of happy colors. Although as soon as February rolls around, I'm sick of the cold weather and start wearing bright colors again to make spring come faster (wishful thinking at it's finest).

P.S. -- I was interviewed by BangStyle! Read the interview if you want to find out which TV character's closets I would raid and my three fall must-haves!
What color are you wearing on your nails right now?
I'm thinking my next color will be cranberry red!

Bloggers Think Pink
You may have noticed the Bloggers Think Pink button at the top of my sidebar lately.

While I'm lucky that breast cancer hasn't affected me or anyone I know, I couldn't pass up this opportunity to help spread awareness and donate to a great cause. 100% of the proceeds will go to Bright Pink, which is the only national (US) non-profit organization that's focused on reducing the risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer in women while providing support for high risk individuals.

On the Bloggers Think Pink website, you can donate $1, $3, $5, or $10. If you donate as a blogger, you get social media shout-outs and an inclusion in the weekly round-up. If you're not, you can donate through Paypal. (Check out this week's round-up of bloggers!)

Bloggers Think Pink's goal is to reach $500 and so far people have donated $125

Inspiration: Anticipating Spring (& A Giveaway!)

I know, I know, it's only the beginning of March and I'm already talking about spring, but I can't help it. In New York, it's been absolutely freezing lately; gray skies and wind that cuts right through you. I'm over it. I want bright lipstick, warm breezes, hints of neon and pastels, florals everywhere, sunshine, stripes, and picnics outside.

P.S -- I'm hosting a giveaway on Coming Unstitched!
The winner will get $25 to Starbucks!

P.P.S. -- I'm selling clothes on eBay! See more of what's up for grabs here!

Inspiration: Nail Art

Lately I've been so lazy when it comes to doing my nails. I keep wanting to paint my nails, but never actually get around to it. Maybe I've just been lacking inspiration. So of course I went to Pinterest! The nail art below is fun and colorful, but not too complicated, and now I really want to paint my nails a mixture of subdued colors and bright neon!

Any nail art ideas? What color are your nails today?

DIY: Art Deco(ish) Nails

I figured I would call these nails "art deco" because of the triangles, but for some reason the color combination of pale blue and gold also screams 1920s art deco to me. Luckily, it is extremely easy to do if you're looking to spice up your nails.

Outfit: Tri-Color

This is the outfit I wore to see Dark Shadows with Jackie and her boyfriend, Ben.

The movie was okay, not as good as thought it was going to be. There were too many unanswered questions and we didn't get to know most of the characters even though they're supposed to be important to the story (like the young boy, David, and his sister, Carolyn). Johnny Depp made Barnabus come alive though, so it was fun to watch him, and Michelle Pfieffer was believable as the matriarch of the family. But for some reason it was uncomfortably awkward to watch Eva Green's character, especially at the end when she confronts the Collins family. And we're just supposed to take it for granted that Barnabus and Victoria are in love because she looks like his past love, but their falling in love isn't really shown. So not one of my favorite Tim Burton movies, but it wasn't terrible.

Beauty Buys (Pink & Gold)

This past week, I got some new beauty buys for spring! I've been loving pink and gold lately (who doesn't?) and that certainly translated into what I decided to buy.

While at Harmon with my mom I bought Wet n' Wild's The Gold & The Beautiful and Color Club's Jackie Oh! I like that the gold is a very yellow-based gold, but it's mostly sheer, so I'm going to use it on top of other colors.

It's hard to tell in the top picture, but the pink is bright neon. And I mean BRIGHT NEON! Like eye-searingly bright. These pictures really don't do it justice.

With a CVS giftcard I got from Mypoints, I got Revlon's Gold Coin nail polish and Revlon's Colorburst Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake. I love this gold! It's a thick foil polish but not hard to brush on and it makes me want to stare at my nails all day long. (You can see how it looks on my nails in the second picture.)

The lip butter is as amazing as the reviews say. It's creamy and hydrating, has more color than a regular tinted lip balm but it's not as thick as a lipstick (which I like), has a slight shimmer, and it has the fainted pleasant smell. I'll definitely be wearing this a lot!

Reverse French Nails

I have another diy nail idea for you guys! And it's actually really easy! The only thing you need are two nail polish colors; one light, one dark.

I used two coats of a light turquiose color and then two coats of a royal blue. When painting the darker color, start slightly further back from the base of the nail and gently curl the nail brush on either side and then fill in the rest. Once dry, use a top coat.

Polka Dot Nails

I painted my nails red with Milani's Bet on Red (a dark, slightly shimmery scarlet) a few days ago, but when I got my new dotting tools in the mail (I got these) I knew I had to test them out. I'm not very adept at nail art, so I did something very simple -- polka dots!

As you can see, on my middle fingers I did something a little different. I used the largest dotting tool to create bigger dots next to each other. When the lighter pink had dried, I did the same with the darker pink to create a scalloped edge.

Next time I'll probably do either all dots or all scalloped edges, and I prefer the dark pink dots on the red.

What do you think?

New Buys

When I initially saw colored pants I thought that the trend wasn't really me. I have short, curvy legs, so why would I want to bring attention to them? But I just kept seeing people wearing it all over (on blogs and off) and started to fall in love with the idea.

So I went online to Forever 21 for a cheap pair to see if I liked another color besides blue on my legs.

I got mint green and a rosy red of this pair, and I really like them. However, I should've listened to the reviews because they're a little too big in the thigh and knee area.

Since they're only $15, I ordered a smaller pair of the rose ones, but unfortunately the mint in the smaller size was sold out. So I'm debating whether to keep it or not.

Since I'm so excited about The Hunger Games coming out soon (only two weeks left!), I bought two of the China Glaze nail polishes from The Hunger Games collection. On the left is Smoke and Ashes, a black with blue and green microglitter, and Stone Cold, a matte gray with silver microglitter.

My mom bought me the Confetti nail polish in Masquerade Ball, a burgandy-brown. Thanks, Mom!

The ring is also from Forever 21, which I wore here.

How was your weekend? I saw John Carter, and it was actually pretty good!

Spring Nails

Despite the fact that this has been a very mild winter here in NY, I'm still craving spring. To help with this, I painted my nails with delicate, spring-like colors (a shimmery light pink and a seafoam green).

Are you ready for spring? Doing anything to get into a spring mood?

DIY: Neon & Black Nails

Inspired by the picture below, I decided to try my hand (ha!) at replicating this interesting nail art. I like how it's somewhat art deco because of its shape, the neon color makes it bright while the black tones it down, and a little bit of exposed nail makes it unique. It reminds me of a more colorful, oddly-shaped French Manicure.

My version...

I used a bright neon pink because I don't have neon yellow and because it's nearly Valentine's Day.

I used blue painter's tape to make my lines straight. I placed strips of tape over my nail at an angle
and painted the pink first. I did two coats, waited for it to dry, then pealed the tape off.

Then I used the same tape stripes, angled them the other way, and painted the black side.
Two coats and then peeled them off, and finished with a clear top coat when dry.
It's not perfect, but I'm really liking the results. Plus, it was super easy to do.

What do you think?

Beauty Buys

Here are my beauty buys from this weekend with my best friend Jackie of Claws Up.

Luckily, two of the Sally Hansen bottles were 75% off CVS. I bought two Salley Hansen Diamond Strength nail polishes, one called Diamonds (a sheer with silver sparkles) and the other Royal Romance (a shiny mauve-pink). I also got Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Lady Luck (a magenta with colorful sparkles).

They are all gorgeous colors and I can't wait to wear them!
