Five Fall Fashion Trends {2015}

Hello autumn! Yes, it's not technically not fall yet, but a girl can dream. I'm really over all of this hot weather. I want to wear layers and stomp around in booties and throw on a cute scarf. Who's with me?

I'm all about the trends this year. Seriously, I love all of them and will wear all of these at some point during the upcoming season. I'm not much of a sneaker girl and I wouldn't call my style minimalist, but I can be swayed by cute sneakers and a classic black dress.

ONE | CARDIGAN COATS
Cardigan Coats

My favorite! I'm a little a lot obsessed with cardigans, so I'm looking forward to taking out my biggest, snuggliest cardigans and wearing them like a blanket. That gray one is currently on my wishlist. There are cardigans for every style out there: classic, feminine, and preppy. Mix a gray cardigan with distressed jeans and bright sneakers, or wear a mustard cardigan with a navy dress and ankle booties.

TWO | FEMININE BIKER
Feminine Biker
Who says a biker chick can't be girly and feminine? This trend is all about colorful motorcycle jackets, booties, and ripped denim. I'm kind of in love with that pastel blue jacket. Think this style isn't for you? Try wearing distressed jeans with a striped top for a preppy style, or a pale pink moto jacket with an off-the-shoulder black dress for a classic style.

THREE | MINIMALIST
Minimalist
Minimalist doesn't have to mean boring or basic. Go for simple but chic pieces that have a little oomph, like a white blouse with a black collar or a lace peplum top or ankle-strap ballet flats. Throw on a burgundy dress with a belt and a gold leaf headband, or a white blouse, black skirt, and blue printed sneakers.

FOUR | BRIGHT SNEAKERS
Bright Sneakers
Well, it seems that sneakers are no longer just reserved for the gym. Because, honestly, these colorful sneakers are too fun to be worn in only one place. Wear them with jeans and a top, wear them with dresses, or wear them with your work out clothes because they go with everything. But maybe don't wear them to a cocktail party.

FIVE | FROST YOURSELF
Frost Yourself
I absolutely had to call this set frost yourself! Anyone else know the movie it's from? This trend is all about darling accessories and things that make you sparkle: ear jackets, necklaces, headbands, and hair pins. Scared to delve into the sparkle? Start with a colorful bow or jeweled hair pins. Or dive into the deep end with a gold headband or gem ear jackets.

Trends from spring that are still in: prints, '70s, and pointed flats.
Trends from last fall that are still in: gray, midi skirts, and outdoorsy.

Which trends will you be wearing?

My 2015 Resolutions

Last year, in my 2014 resolutions post I speculated that this year would go by slower than previous years because I was working, but that was not the case at all. Crazily enough, the months flew past in a blur, which I was not expecting. I have no doubt that 2015 will sweep by me just as quickly.

2014 Resolutions
Get my first full-time job (part-time but still)
Set a monthly budget (nope)
Finish my novel (nope, but I wrote an outline)
Wear heels more often
Wear lipstick more often
Take a trip somewhere (Yay Virginia!)
Learn how to use Adobe Photoshop 12
Feel less pressured by my blog

2014 was a great year overall and I accomplished a lot! One of the main goals was to find a real job and although it's not full-time there's room for it to be in the future, but I'm for now I'm comfortable where things are and I'm enjoying my job immensely.

Still haven't finished my novel, but I wrote an outline for the last 1/3 and that's a big step because it's made me feel like I now know where the novel is going and where it's going to end. Now I just have to sit my ass down and type the words out.

I've definitely felt less pressured by my blog the past year and it helped when I was getting used to a new routine and a new job, but now that 2014 is over I want to focus more time making sure my blog posts are the best they can be.

2015 Resolutions

Exercise more
I didn't want to put the classic "lose weight." That's too vague.
This seems like a more realistic goal.
I'm aiming to get my ass to the gym at least twice a week.

Finish my novel
I'm going to start bringing a notebook to work and write on my lunch break
in the downstairs kitchen since no one goes there. Little by little I WILL finish this book.

Make more friends & hang out with people more
Perhaps this is a weird goal, but I need more friends. It's not that I don't absolutely love the friends I have (guys I really do love you, promise), but I feel like I need to branch out a little bit. There are a few people I've met recently that I want to turn from acquaintances to friends and a few people at work that I would love to hang out with more. Plus I want to hang out with the friends I do have more.

What are your 2015 goals?

Watch | Read | Listen {January 2015}

Happy New Year! It's 2015! I like the way this year sounds. 2015 sounds like a strong year, so I'm hoping that amazing things happen (ie. that I put the hard work in to make these amazing things happen). I'm starting the year on a fun note by traveling to Austin for my cousin's wedding. Follow my adventures in Austin via my Instagram

I probably won't be going to the movies this month even though the movies below do look interesting. Just not interesting enough to get my butt into a seat. (Anyone else get the line, "She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me" line suddenly stuck in their head?). I am however really looking forward to Fairest by Marissa Meyer and Title from Meghan Trainor.

MOVIES

Blackhat
A furloughed convict and ex-hacker Nicholas Hathaway (Chris Hemsworth) helps his American and Chinese partners as they hunt a cyber criminal from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Hong to Jakarta. (Watch the trailer.) (January 16)

Paddington
Based on the beloved novels, Paddington (voiced by Ben Whishaw) is a Peruvian bear who travels to London in search of a home. He's taken in by the kind Brown family (Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins) and all is well until a taxidermist (Nicole Kidman) decides she wants to add him to her collection. (Watch the trailer.) I never read the book, but this looks adorable. I might end up seeing it with my little sister. (January 16)

Song One
In this romantic drama, Franny (Anne Hathaway) returns home when she learns that her brother is now in a coma. She uses her brother's notebook as a guide and seeks out the musicians he loved, particularly James Forester (Johnny Flynn), whom her brother adored. Soon something blossoms between them. (Watch the trailer.) I love Anne Hathaway and this looks really moving. (January 23)

Project Almanac
A brilliant high school student and his friends discover a mysterious device that lets them time travel, but it leads to them putting other people's lives in danger. (Watch the trailer.) Does this movie sound familiar? It used to be called Welcome to Yesterday and was supposed to come out earlier this year. I still really want to see it. (January 30)

Other movies coming out in January:
  • The Woman in Black 2 (Jan. 2)
  • Predestination (Jan. 9)

My Winter Reading List + My 2015 Book Goal

I read 33 books this year! My goal was 32 books this year, so I surpassed it by one book. My Goodreads says that I read 34 books, but there's one that I never finished and don't plan to. What do you do with books that you give up on in regards to Goodreads?

Anyway, I read a lot of fantastic books this year, so it was hard to narrow it down to just my top eight favorites! I picked the eight that left an impression and that I could see myself reading again in the future. My book goal for 2015 is again to read 32 books!
♥ The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a moody story about a man who returns to his childhood home. The memories of that strange time comes flooding back to him and he remembers the magic, the darkness, and the unusual things that occurred. An amazing read!

♥ Fangirl is about Cath, a freshman in college and a fanfiction writer, who is having trouble not being roommates with her twin sister. She wonders if she can do it on her own and if she can start writing her own stories. One of my new favorite books ever!

♥ Perfect Ruin takes place on the floating city of Internment where life is lovely until the first murder in a generation. For Morgan, she starts to sees that their society isn't always perfect and begins to investigate the murder on her own. A fascinating fantasy read.

♥ Flora & Ulysses is a middle-grade book that is so charming and fun. It's about Flora, a young girl, who witnesses Ulysses, a squirrel, get sucked into a vacuum and then get super powers. It's as adorable as it sounds.

♥ Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore is about Clay, a young man who mans the desk at a 24-hour bookstore. What starts as a simple job turns into something so much more complicated that involves a secret society, history, and a lot of books. This book is amazing.

♥ Dorothy Must Die is an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. Amy, a girl from Kansas, finds herself transported and then stuck in Oz, but it's not the same place from the book/movie. Soon Amy is recruited to kill the evil queen: Dorothy. It's a fun read that doesn't take itself too seriously.

♥ Cress is the third in The Lunar Chronicles series (which is my favorite series after Harry Potter). Cinder, Captain Thorne, Scarlet, and Wolf are now fugitives on the run and they're plotting to overthrow Queen Levana. In order to do so they need Cress, a girl stuck on a satellite, who was just given orders by Queen Levana to track Cinder down. Loved it!

♥ Horrorstor is a dark but humorous horror novel. Amy works at Orsk, which is similar to Ikea, and strange things have been happening at night in the store while no one is there, so that night she, the floor manager Basil, and a few others decide to investigate, but what they find is not what they were expecting. A fun read and I love that the book looks like an Ikea catalog.
I only read three of the books from my summer reading list, but I would still like to get to them at some point. I'm bringing Attachments with me on the plane to Austin and the others will no doubt be read cuddled up in bed with hot chocolate.

♥ Attachments by Rainbow Rowell
♥ The Savages by Matt Whyman
♥ Pure (Pure #1) by Julianna Baggott
♥ A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall
♥ Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
♥ Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne
♥ The Sleeper and The Spindle by Neil Gaiman
♥ Office Girl by Joe Meno
