Outfit: Galentine's Day + Giveaway!

Galentine's Day AND Valentine's Day is all about pink, red, and burgundy, so of course the best outfit has all three! I added some flair in the form of three cute brooches: a wooden bow, a red rose, and a pin with the silhouette of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. And no bookish outfit is complete without a Wizard of Oz book clutch, amiright?

On a totally random note: Is anyone else watching Riverdale? It's like a mix of Gossip Girl and Pretty Litle Liars and it's so intense and dark and melodramatic! My favorite thing is the awesome friendship between Betty and Veronica. Veronica is such a snarky bad ass and I love it. I've never read any Archie comics, but you don't need to watch this show.
Sweater: Old Navy | Dress: Forever 21 | Belt: Primark

Galentine's Day Wishlist

Who else excited for Galentine's Day?! I love Galentine's Day more than Valentine's Day because it's all about celebrating the awesome ladies in your life -- yourself, your BFF, your friends, your mom -- rather than stupid romantic love (can you tell I'm bitter because I've never had a boyfriend?). But in all seriousness, Galentine's Day is about women celebrating women; something we should all do every day.

Holiday Wishlist

My holiday wishlist is full of random things I've been dying to get all year long! As you can see, my love for Fantastic Beasts is still going strong and I kind of want to BE Newt and immerse myself in the 1926 Wizarding World! I heard The Case of Beasts is really cool, but I literally just got Wizarding World: Movie Magic, which is SO AWESOME!

I saw the Broadway musical She Loves Me on my birthday in June and I've been obsessed with the music ever since. I want the album so that I can sing along with the songs while driving to and from work. Do I care if people see my singing my lungs out? Nope! #noshame

3 Easy Bookish Halloween Costumes

I love Halloween and dressing up, but I've always found store bought costumes to be boring and generic. I'm not saying you should go full Comic Con on your costume (aka spend months and months working on a costume, though by all means do so if you want to because that's awesome!), but there's a fun and easy way to create a costume: use what's already in your closet!

Think about your favorite book characters and then go through your closet to see what you have that you can use to recreate their iconic look. For today's post, I put together three bookish costumes based on how easy they are to assemble.

ONE | Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson (Level: Easy)
Annabeth Chase is one of the three main characters of the Percy Jackson series with Percy and Grover being the other two. She's a teenage Greek half-blood; her mom is Athena (Goddess of wisdom) and her father is a mortal history professor. Annabeth is intelligent, likes architecture, and has a gift for strategy, but she can also be mistrustful and prideful. She uses a celestial bronze knife and has a Yankees cap from her mom that makes her invisible (which I forgot to wear).

How to dress like Annabeth: wear an orange t-shirt with "Camp Half-Blood" on it (the Pegasus is optional), jeans, sneakers, and a Yankees baseball cap (or any baseball cap).
Optional: carry a fake knife or an architecture book.

TWO | Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter (Level: Easy/Medium)
Luna Lovegood is a character introduced in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and after that is a well-loved secondary character. She's a Pureblood Ravenclaw student and her father is the editor-in-chief of The Quibbler, a wacky magazine that no one takes seriously. Luna is known for being strange and whimsical and cares little for what people think of her, which is how she got the nickname "Loony" Lovegood.

How to dress like Luna: wear a purple cardigan or jacket, an orange top, a bright printed skirt, bright purple or blue rights, and flats. Or really you could just wear any bright, mismatched clothing and you'd be all set.
Optional: wear Spectre Specs and carry around a wand or a copy of The Quibbler.

THREE | Newt Scamander from Fantastic Beasts (Level: Medium/Hard)
Newt Scamander wrote the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in the Harry Potter world. He's a newly-fleshed out character for the new movie and so far we know that he was a Hufflepuff when he attended Hogwarts, but he's now a magizoologist who goes on research trips because of his interest in magical creatures. His normal-looking briefcase contains many species of magical beasts that get loose in 1930s New York City.

How to dress like Newt: wear a green or blue jacket, a white shirt with a black bow tie (or instead a black ribbon or a black Peter Pan collar), a vest, preferably yellow or brown, gray jeans, brown Oxford flats or boots.
Optional: carry a wand and a brown briefcase or wear a yellow and gray striped scarf.

Here are some more ideas for you:
  • Ron Weasley: bulky striped sweater, corduroy pants, sneakers, wand, Chocolate Frogs.
  • Daisy from The Great Gatsby: jeweled headband, long pearl necklace, flapper dress, heels.
  • Anne from Anne of Green Gables: blue dress over printed blouse, wide hat, boots, hair in pigtails.
  • Alice from Alice in Wonderland: blue dress, black headband, striped tights, black shoes.
  • Mad Hatter: green top hat, brown jacket, printed bow tie, vest, gray pants, Oxford flats, teacup.
  • Agent Carter: red hat, blue blazer, blue skirt, white collared blouse, black heels.

Are you dressing up for Halloween this year?

Galentine's Day Gifts

Galentine's Day is this Saturday! It's a holiday in which us ladies celebrate each other and how awesome we are! #girlpower

Galentine's Day should always be spent with your bestie or girl squad, so I'm spending the day with my best gal, Avra. We haven't made plans yet, but our day will probably involve Starbucks, shopping at Sephora and LUSH, maybe seeing the movie Hail, Caesar!, and singing along to Coldplay in the car. On a slightly unrelated note, Avra and I started going to the gym together last week and it was awesome. Exercising isn't so bad when you can chat with your bestie!

Inspiration: Holiday Glam

My company holiday party is this Friday, so it's the perfect occasion to go a little overboard with the glam. I'm still deciding what to wear, but there's obviously going to be something sparkly or lacey involved. And I'll probably break out the red lipstick (or lip stain, so I can actually eat without getting it all over my face).

Hopefully this unseasonably warm weather will continue so I don't have to wear tights to the party. #fingerscrossed

What are you wearing to your work holiday party?

Unique Gifts For The Holidays (With Jord)

It's crazy to me how the holidays are almost here! Hanaukkah just over two weeks away and Christmas just over a month away. I'm sure like me, you have a lot of people to give gifts to who vary in age and who all have different interests. It would be SO nice to just walk into one store, pick out the same gift for everyone and have every single person be happy, but that's never going to happen.

Below I've collected unique and fun gifts that work for many different people.
For Everyone: The one gift that almost every single person on your list would appreciate: a Jord watch. I've raved about this company before and I truly love their products. I even bought one for my dad for his 60th birthday in August. They have several different styles for both men and women and various natural wood colors. And they're so classic and timeless.
For The Candle Obsessed: These small Form & Flux candles that come in every cool scent you can imagine from dusty bookshelf to Nocturn Alley to chocolate tart.

For The Reader: If you know someone who loves reading, whether it's a nephew, a friend, or your grandma, there's a unique book for them in My Bookmark's shop. I have the Alice in Wonderland one, but the mermaid tail is too cute.

For The Unique Sock Collector: I feel like there's always one person in every family who collects weird socks. If that's the case for you, then look no further than Out of Print with their book-inspired socks.

For The Fandom Lover: If you know someone who talks about their fandom incessantly, then it's time to get them a Funko Pop or a Dorbz of their favorite character.

For The Artist (Or The Perpetually Stressed): Get them The Mindfulness Coloring Book stat. Adult coloring books are so calming and make you feel accomplished something when you've finished coloring a page.

For Your PenPal: If you have a penpal, you can get them a Three Potato Four penpal key tags to tell them you're thinking of them even when you're not writing to them.
For The Person Who Loves Scents But Not Candles: If you know someone who prefers wax melts rather than candles, then check out Live Love Wax Co, who creates beautifully-smelling melts, like blueberry cobbler, caramel apple, and pumpkin cider birthday cake. (I got this wax melter at CVS, but there are great ones on Amazon.)

**I received two Jord watches for free. All opinions are my own.**

What gift are you hoping to get this year?

P.S. -- There's no post tomorrow because it's been a busy week.

Outfit: A Spoonful of Sugar

I remember watching Mary Poppins as a kid with my two younger brothers and being completely mesmerized by the songs and the story. My favorite character has always been Bert, the chimney sweep (played by Dick Van Dyke). I like his upbeat personality and wide smile. And the song I've always liked best is Step In Time when he and the other chimney sweeps are dancing and jumping on the roof. Even now when I watch it it makes me smile. But I decided to go for the cute and classic Mary Poppins look for Halloween.
"What did I tell ya? There's a whole world at your feet. And who gets to see it but the birds, the stars, and the chimney sweeps."
Even though I think this outfit is so cute, I'm going to wear a seagreen flapper-like dress I got from Shop Ruche a few months ago to work on Friday for Halloween. Hopefully I won't be the only one dressing up at the office!
Hat: old | Blouse: via Poshmark | Skirt: Loft | Tights: ℅ Kushy Foot

Inspiration: Galentine's Day

It's the month of Love! I don't have a boyfriend, but I'm getting into the Valentine's Day spirit by celebrating the other relationships in my life: family, friends, and co-workers. I'll be giving more hugs and no doubt eating more chocolate (and conversation hearts!) than usual. This year, my friends are celebrating Galentine's Day by having brunch at Silver Tips, a cute little tea place with delicious samosas.

P.S. -- I talked about Everyday Feminism on Clear the Way!

How are you celebrating Valentine's Day or Galentine's Day?
