Outfit: Keep It Cozy

Mother Nature seems to be confused because one day it's 90 degrees and the next it's 60. On one such cold day, this is what I wore. That day also happened to be both Yom Kippur and my brother Ben's birthday. Terrible, I know. Even though he couldn't properly celebrate with cake until after sundown, he got some pretty cool presents. I got him a watch tray and a gift card to Kohl's, while my other brother Leo gave him a blue t-shirt that reads: Trust me, I'm an accountant. Ben's in grad school to be a forensic accountant.

If you can't tell from the following pictures, I like fun and quirky rings. I'm always looking for a ring that has character, whether it's a teacup ring, a shield ring, a ring that's actually two pieces, a cute bear ring, or a turquoise bow ring. So, of course, I couldn't resist when I saw a scalloped edge ring and an ampersand ring.

I want to thank Jewelissima for this beautiful necklace and the other wonderful goodies I received in the mail! Also, be sure to check out Jewelissima's latest blog posts!

Exciting News!

Extra extra read all about it!
I've got exciting news to tell you guys!

I'll be writing two blog posts a week for Jewelissima's blog, Trend Alert!
My first blog post is already up!

Each week, I'm going to publish a Real VS. Deal and a Celebrity Inspired post.
I also revamped the Trend Alert blog, so if you're curious why it looks familiar that's why.

If Jewelissima sounds familiar it's because they sponsored me last month and the founder Rachel asked me to help her out since it's a new company. Jewelissima features trendy and affordable jewelry and clothing. Seriously, go check it out because they have really cute stuff! (I promise I wasn't paid to say that.)

If you want to keep up to date with Trend Alert's posts, you can do so with Bloglovin!

Five Fall 2013 Fashion Trends + Jewelissima Necklace Giveaway! [CLOSED]

Every year at the end of summer, there's a moment where I'm sick of wearing my summer clothing and annoyed that the heat is preventing me from wearing cardigans. That moment has happened a few times now. I just want to wear cozy sweaters without sweating! When this moment happens, I start looking into the new fall trends.

A few of them are trends I can really get behind and see myself wearing, but two of them will most likely be watched from afar (camo and white overload). A trend has to fit my style for me to wear it. I generally don't mold my style to trends unless I'm really interested in it.

ONE | Suit Up
Fall 2013 Trends: Suit Up
Tailored pieces are perfect for women who have a classic style, but even if you don't you can still wear this trend. It would be fun to match tailored clothing (like trousers, tuxedo shirts, button up blouses, blazers) with casual pieces, like a blazer with jeans or trousers with a sweatshirt. Also, try wearing professional clothing in bright colors and bold prints to make it feel more modern.

TWO | 90's Grunge
Fall 2013 Trends: 90's Grunge
Yep, the 90's are back in a big way! Since I don't remember much of it from the first time around (born in 1989!), I'm excited to look for grunge-inspired pieces, like lots of plaid, ditsy floral, beanies, studs, and edgy stripes. I'm not one for Doc Martens, but if you do definitely go for it.

THREE | Camo Print
Fall 2013 Trends: Camo Print
Camo is the next big print, so if you're loving it you can go bold with a camo jacket or pants, or go small with a purse, scarf, or hat. It's a tough print to wear, so try pairing it with jeans to tone it down, or a girly top or dress to make it more feminine.

FOUR | Denim Everything
Fall 2013 Trends: Denim Everything
This popular spring and summer trend is continuing into autumn. Bring chambray dresses and overalls into fall by wearing it with darker colors, or use denim as a layering piece when it gets cold by piling a denim jacket or vest over a sweater. Colored jeans have been popular for a few years now, so try denim in jewel tones for fall.

FIVE | White Overload
Fall 2013 Trends: White Overload
No doubt about it, white was the color of the summer. White on white was so popular and, despite old fashion rules that say you can't wear it past Labor Day, white in the fall is refreshing. Besides, rules were made to be broken. Continue pairing white with more white, or white with quintessential fall colors, like mustard, olive green, navy, or plum.

P.S. -- Burgundy is still a popular color for fall!

Inspired By: City of Bones + Sponsor: Jewelissima

Set in contemporary NYC, an ordinary girl named Clary Fray  discovers she is a descendant of Shadowhunters, half-angel warriors who protect our world from demons and creatures of the night. After Clary's mother is kidnapped, Clary joins forces with the Shadowhunters and realizes there's more to our world than she realized.

Despite the beautiful language and intriguing story the book left me disappointed, but I'm still interested in seeing the movie and how it translates into the big screen.

Clary Fray
Inspired By: City of Bones (Clary Fray)

Clary (Lily Collins) is an teenage girl whose life in New York City is ordinary until she sees something she shouldn't be able to one night while out at a night club with her best friend, Simon. She was raised by her artist mother and Clary herself is an artist, drawing her emotions in a book.

For a day out in New York City, layer with a blue anorak, red plaid shirt, graphic tee, jeans, pink stud earrings, and pink Converse. Or if you want to look more bad-ass, go for a black lace dress, quilted leather jacket, knee high boots, and a cool clutch.

Jace Wayland
Inspired By: City of Bones (Jace Wayland)
Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower) is the mysterious Shadowhunter Clary sees kill a demon at the night club. He is loyal and witty, was orphaned at a young age, and is the best Shadowhunter his age. Go for an all-black look with a black t-shirt, moto vest, jeans, and shorts boots. Or for a lighter look, wear a lacey blue button up, distressed jeans, blue sneakers, and gold jewelry.

Simon Lewis
Inspired By: City of Bones (Simon Lewis)
Simon (Robert Sheehan) has been best friends with Clary for ten years. Kind and loyal Simon has been in love with Clary for years, but she is of course completely oblivious to the fact. Simon also strongly dislikes Jace.  For a professorial look, wear a beige blazer, pink tee, jeans, studded watch, and floral sneakers. Or instead wear a chambray dress, blue cardigan, blue ring, and gray sneakers.

Isabelle and Alec Lightwood
Inspired By: City of Bones (Isabelle & Alec Lightwood)
Isabelle and Alec Lightwood (Jemima West and Kevin Zegers) are siblings who have grown up learning how to be Shadowhunters with Jace and who have fought alongside him. The siblings are uncertain of Clary and don't like her at first, wary of how it might change their dynamic.

To dress like Isabelle, go for a faux-leather front shirt, black jeans, a layered necklace, and black wedge boots. Or you can dress like Alec by wearing a lace top, moto vest, cargo pants, and lace-panel boots.

Have you read the book?
Will you be seeing the movie?
