Inspired By: Oz The Great and Powerful

If you saw my March movies post last week, then you know I'm very excited to see Oz The Great and Powerful. It looks like a wonderfully fun adventure fantasy! The movie is so rich with details, I'm a huge fan of Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz, the story is captivating, and it seems like a great way to escape for two hours.

If you need a refresher: A prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story follows Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a circus magician, who is flown to the Land of Oz by a hot air balloon. He believes he's hit the jackpot of fame and fortune until he meets three witches (Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz), who don't think he's the great wizard that everyone's expecting. Will he be able to save the Land of Oz, figure out who is good and who is evil, and transform himself in the Wizard of Oz?

It comes out in theaters tomorrow!

Oscar Diggs AKA The Wizard of Oz
Inspired By: Oz The Great & Powerful -- Oz

Played by James Franco, Oscar Diggs is a small-time circus magician with questionable morals, who is hurled away in a hot air balloon to the Land of Oz, where he believes he'll get all the fame and fortune he wants. However he meets three witches, who tell him that a great wizard is expected by all, and that Oscar must pretend to be this wizard to save the Land of Oz.

As a man from 1900 (the year The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was published), Oscar is always seen in his formal attire, so to modernize it wear a navy blazer, black and white blouse, pants, blue t-strap heels, and a bowler hat. For a girlier version, try a blue trench coat, a blue and nude lace dress, black pumps, and a wide brim fedora (which I bought!). Don't forget a cute brown bag since Oscar is never without his.

Theodora
Inspired By: Oz The Great & Powerful -- Theodora
Played by Mila Kunis, Theodora is a beautiful but naive witch, who is protected by her older sister, Evanora. She wants peace to come to the Land of Oz and truly believes that the prophecy will come true and that a great wizard will restore order to their land. To dress like the young witch, who favors black, burgandy, and leather have fun in a black dress with leather accents, a fedora, and sparkly heels. For going on a wild adventure opt for a pale pink blouse, peplum blazer, faux leather pants, tall boots, and a red floppy hat.

P.S. -- Check out the Urban Decay palettes for Theodora and Glinda!

Glinda
Inspired By: Oz The Great & Powerful -- Glinda
Played by Michelle Williams, Glinda the Good Witch rules over a kingdom of peaceful, kind-hearted people. Though she is compassionate and benevolent, she is fiercely protective of her people. She also sees that Oscar is not who he pretends to be, but knows that good lies within him. Glinda is as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside, so she wears sparkling fabrics in light colors -- go for sparkly gold jacket, white lace dress, pretty necklace, and gold t-strap heels. Or wear a jacket with ruffles, silver brocade dress, silver strappy heels, and feather headband.

Evanora
Inspired By: Oz The Great & Powerful -- Evanora
Played by Rachel Weisz, Evanora is a witch to be feared; she exudes confidence and power, and has positioned herself as the royal advisor and protector of Emerald City. She is also Theodora's over-protective sister. Evanora has a penchant for all things green and feathery, so don a sleeveless green dress with a flowy cardigan, stone necklace, and black booties. Or for even more of a femme fatale look, go for a black lace dress, green jacket with faux leather sleeves, green necklace, and black pumps.

Lusting: Bright Blazers

Once I saw Kendi wearing a bright pink blazer, I suddenly felt that something was missing from my closet. I have my favorite navy blue blazer and one or two black blazers, but do I have a brightly colored one? Nope. I would love to find a fun pink blazer for spring and summer.

P.S -- I'm hosting a giveaway on Coming Unstitched!
The winner will get $25 to Starbucks!

Outfit: Abstract Floral

Even though it was raining, it was warm, and by warm I mean 45 degrees. I can't wait until it's in the 60's, so I can go outside without a coat and even break out my flats again. By the time it's March, winter just feels so long. That's why I opted to wear color and pretend that it was spring by wearing an abstract floral print tunic.

Hello to all the new followers I've gotten lately! So excited you're here!

Inspiration: Anticipating Spring (& A Giveaway!)

I know, I know, it's only the beginning of March and I'm already talking about spring, but I can't help it. In New York, it's been absolutely freezing lately; gray skies and wind that cuts right through you. I'm over it. I want bright lipstick, warm breezes, hints of neon and pastels, florals everywhere, sunshine, stripes, and picnics outside.

Movies I Want To See (March 2013)

Once again, I wish I could go to the movie theater every weekend this month! Last month, I was lucky enough to see Warm Bodies, Identity Thief, and Beautiful Creatures! I would recommend them all. This month I particularly want to see Oz the Great and Powerful.

Jack the Giant Slayer
This action / adventure movie stars Nicholas Holt as Jack, a farmhand who accidentally opens a gateway between our world and a revengeful race of giants who mean to take back the land they once lost. Jack is forced to stop creatures he thought only existed in fairy tales before they can take control, while also fighting for the hand of a brave princess (Eleanor Tomlinson). (March 1)

Oz the Great and Powerful
A prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story follows Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a circus magician, who is flown to the Land of Oz by a hot air balloon. He believes he's hit the jackpot of fame and fortune until he meets three witches (Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz), who don't think he's the great wizard that everyone's expecting. Can he help save the Land of Oz, figure out who is good and who is evil, and transform himself in the Wizard of Oz? This film looks so vibrant and multi-layered and I can't wait to see it! (March 8)

From Up on Poppy Hill
From Up on Poppy Hill is a coming-of-age story set in Yokohama in 1963 as Japan is picking itself up from the devastation of World War II and preparing to host the 1964 Olympics. It follows Umi and Shun, who get caught up in the changing times, but a secret threatens to pull them apart. Since I loved Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, I'm so excited to see this one! (March 15)

Upside Down
It's an alternative universe where two worlds are so close, yet so far away. These two worlds have their own gravity and people from one world cannot "stick" to the other. A young man (Jim Sturgess) from the "Down" world battles the laws of physics and prejudice to reunite with his long-lost love (Kirsten Dunst) from the "Up" world. Can love conquer gravity? I've already seen this unique movie; it's fun and romantic with a hint of sci-fi. I really liked it! (March 15)

Admission
The comedy-drama follows Portia Nathan (Tina Fey), a Princeton University admissions officer, who visits an alternative high school overseen by a former classmate, the laidback John Pressman (Paul Rudd). John has guessed that Jeremiah (Nat Wolf), a gifted student, might be the son that Portia secretly gave up for adoption years ago. Portia finds herself bending the rules for Jeremiah and putting at risk the life she thought she wanted. While comedic, this movie looks like it will pull on those heart strings as well. (March 22)

The Host
Based on a novel by Stephanie Meyer, The Host shows the story of our world when it's been overrun by parasitic aliens and we are their hosts. Melanie (Soairse Ronan) gets captured and becomes a host to Wanderer, or Wanda. While fighting for one mind and body, Wanda learns that Melanie loved a young man named Jared (Max Irons) and goes in search of him, only to find a group of unpossessed humans surviving in the desert. Can humans keep fighting for their survival? (March 29)
