Inspiration: Pictures Saved On My iPad

A few months ago, I showed you some pictures I saved on my iPad. Well, I thought I would show you a few more! I'm always saving pictures that I find on Instagram, on people's blogs, or from iPad-only magazines. But I have to get better at remembering where each picture comes from, or make note of it somehow. I only know where three of the pictures are from, so if you know I would love to be able to tag them. Thanks!

Today Jess from Bookworms in Dresses is taking over my blog!

Hello there! I'm Jess from Bookworms in Dresses, and I'm going to jump right into the thick of it today and talk about drawing/sketching/everything in between! I've been scribbling on napkins, table cloths, programs, cardboard boxes, coloring books, and everything and anything in-between. Now, I restrain myself to sketchbooks, napkins, paper table cloths in restaurants, programs, school notes, PowerPoint printouts, and...man, I haven't restrained myself much at all, have I? 

All I can say about drawing is that I've been doing it since I could dip my fingers into paint and smack my hand on paper, knocking over the plastic easel and causing havoc until I was forced to only paint on the tile entryway surrounded by old newspapers. Then, when I got my hands on crayons, well, clearly that got me even more enthralled with drawing and coloring. 

A drawing by me circa...I don't even know...preschool? The Cheshire cat is the size of the house, and I must have used up the blue marker because the cloud is yellow. I don't know. Now, if I would have never drawn anything else in my entire 23 years but this one thing, I can guarantee you that I would STILL only be able to draw something like this. At least, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have improved at all unless I drew on anything that came in front of my face. 

Practice, practice, practice is what gets you better at drawing! From that giant smiling creepy cat that is the size of Clifford the Big Red Dog, (maybe that's what I was going for??) I moved onto anime in middle school. I drew some (relatively terrible and I'm embarrassed about it and refuse to post it anywhere for you to see) big eyed anime girls. I almost never drew guys because I couldn't get those manly square jaws right, they all turned out looking like girls. Now, I still draw girls the majority of the time, but I've progressed!

I try to sketch a little every day to continue practicing. Currently, I'm working at improving my digital drawing/coloring abilities and learning more about making illustrations in Illustrator!

Some of my artist quirks:

• I always start a drawing with a face, sometimes I start with the nose 
• I don't like when people stare over my shoulder while I draw 
• Reference images are important for poses 
• When I'm drawing in public, I hate making eye contact with someone 
• Copic markers are my favorite coloring tool 
• I prefer sketching by hand to sketching digitally

Books & Looks: Sara

Extra, extra, read all about it! Sincerely, Sara has a new series! I love all of the series I currently have on my blog (Inspired By, Outfits, Looks I Love, Inspiration), but I felt it was time for something new and I wanted that new series to include you guys, my lovely readers!

The amazing Danielle of Sometimes Sweet did a series like this years ago called Literate and Stylish, which I absolutely loved. I asked Danielle if I could continue the series in a way and she said yes! Thank you, Danielle!!

So I'm thinking there should be two Books & Looks posts a month. One on the first Wednesday and one on the last Wednesday of every month. How does that sound? You also don't have to be a blogger to participate. I welcome everyone!

BOOK: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Although Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my absolute favorite book, I chose to show off this book because it's my favorite cover. It has a soft rubbery pink cover with engraved words all over it that I just think it really cool. 

LOOK: I've had this blue dress for years and still wear it often. It's soft, I like the length, the subtle cut-outs at the bottom, and the scalloped edge. One of my favorite memories while wearing this dress was playing on a elementary school playground with my friends a few years ago.

Outfit: Floral Fever

Okay, so I might be a little obsessed with this skirt. I got it several months ago and can't stop wearing it (see here and here). I wear it at least once a week. People at work probably think I don't own any other skirt!

I finally got a remote for my camera and it makes taking outfit pictures so much easier. I don't have to keep running back and forth to set the timer. Now I see if I'm in frame because of the "vari-angle LCD screen," press the button, and pose like the model I'm not. It's actually kind of fun to use.

Lusting: Pom Poms

The two biggest trends that I've seen this summer are pineapple-printed pieces and pom poms. While I think pineapples are cute, I'm really in love with the clothing I've seen that has pom poms on it. It's so adorable! I would love to get my hands on some pom pom shorts! (And for people who love pineapples and pom poms, there are shorts below just for you.)
