Inspired By: Anne of Green Gables

In honor of my lovely friend Avra's birthday this Saturday, I'm doing a post inspired by her favorite book and movie! Happy (almost) 23rd birthday, Avra!

The book Anne of Green Gables and it's seven sequels were written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the first being published in 1908. It tells the story of Anne Shirley, an orphaned girl who is accidentally sent to siblings Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert, who needed a boy to help them with the farm in the town of Avonlea. Many adaptations have been made, but the pictures below are from the popular 1985 TV movie and the 1987 sequel

Anne Shirley (Megan Follows) is imaginative, talkative, smart, and has freckles and bright red hair that she likes to wear in braids. Anne is a top student in English and has literary ambitions. Although she has a rough start in the town, she becomes close to her adopted parents, her friend, Diana, and her teacher, Miss Muriel Stacy. Dress like Anne by wearing a white hat, mustard cardigan, blue chambray dress, bow earrings, and T-strap flats. Or go more casual by gray beanie, striped tee, green vest, jeans, and nude flats.

Gilbert Blythe
Anne of Green Gables -- Gilbert

Gilbert Blythe (Jonathan Crombie) initially bullies Anne because of her red hair, calling her "Carrots." Anne immediately dislikes him, despite the fact that he apologizes numerous times. Gilbert is practical, reliable, at times smug, and is handsome with dark, curly hair. During the story, he starts to have feelings for Anne. Put on a fedora, blue plaid shirt, jean shorts, and gray Toms to look like Gilbert. Or wear a gray newsboy cap, white top, beige vest, gray jeans, and brown oxfords.

Diana Barry
Anne of Green Gables -- Diana

Diana Barry (Schuyler Grant) is Anne's closest "bosom" friend. The two of them became friends the instant they meet. Luckily not only do they go to school together, but they live near each other. Diana is loyal, pretty, friendly, and has dark wavy hair. To dress like Diana wear a sequined striped shirt, a pleated chambray skirt, red floral necklace, and teal flats. Or go for a fedora, pink peplum top, white lace-embellished shorts, and nude sandals.

Have you read the books or seen the mini-series?
What do you think?

  1. To grow up in Canada is to grow up with Anne of Green Gables, and the 1985 movie was definitely my favourite version! Diana Barry was always my favourite character, but I like the look you put together for Anne best - it's so fresh and summery!

i never even read the books and it made me mad! it makes her look like a slut, in stead of the awkward girl she is supposed to be.
