Lusting: Keds

So my dad got me a pair of gray Keds two months ago from T.J. Maxx and they're so comfortable (like walking on clouds!) that I've been thinking of getting another pair, something in a fun print. You all know how much I love florals, but the navy polka dot ones are so cute and I love these key print ones
Which are your favorite?
Do you own a pair of Keds?

Inspiration: Pointed Toe Flats

I absolutely love flats and have been wearing them for years. I always get excited when spring rolls around because it means I can break out my many pairs of flats. However, when I first saw pointed toe flats and D'Orsay flats (the ones where the front and back don't touch, like the red and black pair below), I didn't love them. But slowly I've come around and I just ordered a pair of floral D'Orsay flats.

P.S. -- They're a top spring trend!

Do you like pointed toe flats?

Lusting: Oxford Flats

Since many of you said you were looking for oxford flats, I thought I would help out. I would also like to find my perfect pair (I'm thinking of getting the taupe pair in the bottom left corner), so here are some options for you! There are so many kinds of oxford flats (metallic, printed, black, brown, bright colors, etc.) that you're sure to find something that suits your style.

Since a few of you have asked: To shop the shoes below, just click the picture (or the link that says "Oxford Flats") and it will take you to Polyvore, and from there it will take you to the corresponding website that the shoes are from. Happy shopping!

Lusting: Striped Shoes

I'm not sure how it started, but lately I've been liking the look of striped shoes. It's kind of fun and unexpected, and spruces up a lazy weekend outfit of a t-shirt and jeans, or a simple dress. I rediscovered a pair of navy and red striped loafers that my mom thrifted a few years ago (you can see my outfit here), and wore them three times last week.

Are you into striped shoes?
Yay or nay?

Outfit: It's Raining, It's Pouring (With Joules)

I know it's not spring yet, far from it, but I'm excited for those spring showers to show up now that I have these cute short floral rain boots from Joules, a British store that has a passion for colorful, printed clothing. Joules has been making high-quality clothing for three decades and they've now crossed the pond to the U.S.

Since I wear rain boots more in the spring and summer, my tall purple ones make my calves sweaty, so these will be absolutely perfect for when it's warm but also raining. But I couldn't wait until spring, so I wore them while running errands, and I promise you they're very comfortable. I also paired it with a matching scarf, which is seriously the softest wool ever. It certainly made that dreary day a little brighter!

Outfit: Blue Tones + The Scarpetta "Everyday is a Fashion Show" Contest

I can't afford to spend a ton of money on clothes or shoes (though I certainly wish I could!), so I was pleasantly surprised when The Scarpetta contacted me. Some companies will say that they have affordable fashion when they don't, but when you hear me say it about The Scarpetta it's definitely true. The Scarpetta sells designer shoes at a steal!

Most of the shoes on the website (and there are A LOT of shoes on this site, so you won't have a problem finding something you love) are in the $20 to $75 range. While some do go above that, most of the ones I saw were tall boots and some heels, which is no surprise anyway.

The Maryjane heels I choose are a soft navy suede that are very well-made and so comfortable. I paired them with a gray sweater jacket, blue blouse, sparkly necklace, and jeans. I might be having an important meeting with my boss, so I'm considering wearing this, though I think switching to black trousers would be a good call.
Jacket: Express (via Sydney Style giveaway) | Blouse: Express (via Sydney Style giveaway) Necklace: Sammydress (only $6!) | Jeans: Forever 21 {similar} | Heels: ℅ The Scarpetta

Outfit: Gray & Florals

I got these boots in the mail two weeks ago and the day after I just had to wear them, despite the fact that it was 85 degrees. I like to imagine that fall is right around the corner (even though it will still be mildly warm in New York for several more weeks), so I paired my gray booties with more gray. For some reason, gray is a color that I hardly ever wear. If I'm going neutral, I usually reach for black or beige, but these gray boots will be on rotation quite a lot this fall.

To brighten things up, I wore a colorful floral skirt and a pale green stone necklace. It's not a Strauss the Mouse (that was my nickname in high school by the way) outfit if there isn't color.

Which colors do you wear more than others? (Purple and blue for me)
Any you never wear? (Orange)

Favorite Things

Can you tell I'm ready for fall and for school? Even though it's been eighty degrees, I've been wearing these booties with dresses and skirts (which you'll see come Tuesday). I also went school shopping with my friend Avra since she's about to start grad school for forensic linguistics. Pretty amazing, right?

While in Staples, I picked up these colorful pens to edit my own and other people's stories and a tiny monthly planner to help me with blog posts when life gets hectic. I've also been loving this necklace from Motherland that I won via giveaway, Bite lipsick, this colorful tray from Lulu & Georgia that I got via giveaway, and using a calligraphy pen when I write letters.

I wrote an article for Look Addict about transitioning summer clothing into fall!

DIY: Embroidered Sneakers + $40 Target Giveaway!

I recently saw this DIY at Free People's blog and wanted to do my own spin on it. I think it's so creative and a great way to update a pair of plain sneakers. Who wants plain sneakers when you can have awesome ones?

1. All you need are a pair of sneakers, craft or embroidery floss, a needle, and scissors.

2. If you want to plan out where to put your triangles (or circles or lines or whatever you prefer) you could lightly draw outlines with a white pencil or seamstress chalk, but I just winged it.

3. I started with the back of my low top Converse sneakers. I wanted to go down the whole back with triangles, but the back of the shoe was too thick, so I did only one. Then I decided to take Free People's DIY a step further by putting triangles on either side of my sneakers.

4. There's really no trick to sewing the triangles; you'll get better at doing them as you go on. Just have fun and know it doesn't have to be perfect, and that the sneakers don't have to be mirror images of each other.

5. When you're satisfied with how your sneakers look, put them on and take 'em for a spin!

Are you going to try this DIY?

I have a Target giveaway going on right now with The Tiny Heart!!

Inspiration: Summer Sandals

One of the best things about spring and summer is being able to unleash my toes from the confines of socks and closed-toe shoes. Don't you just love the feel of the wind against your feet and being able to slip your shoes off to feel the grass or sand? I know I do. This summer I'm loving strappy sandals and metallic touches.

What do you want on your feet this summer?
