In France, 1557, 15-year-old Mary has been living in a convent since she was nine, but after a failed assassination attempt via poison, Mary is sent to the French court for her safety, where she is reunited with her childhood friends and ladies-in-waiting as well as her betrothed, Prince Francis. Mary finds that court is a dangerous place, full of constantly changing alliances and her marriage isn't assured.
This show started airing a few weeks ago, but I'm already obsessed. Mary is sweet and down to earth, but also authoritative when she needs to be, so you can't help but root for her. There's romance and danger around every corner, and of course the fashion is impeccable.
Mary, Queen of Scots
Mary (Adalaide Kane) is the regal and kind Scottish Queen, who is a little naive from not having grown up at court, but is commanding when she needs to be. She's happy to be back with her childhood friends, and will do what she can to protect them. Mary is also determined to secure her marriage to Francis since it will help Scotland.
For a regal, but colorful look, wear a purple brocade dress, blue gem necklace, colorful rings, sequin clutch, and nude wedges. Or for a bohemian outfit, try a floral headpiece, white maxi dress, crown ring, and red flats.
Prince Francis of France
Dauphin Francis (Toby Regbo) is the heir to the French throne. Though he is intrigued by Mary, he has personal reservations about the marriage, and is having a secret affair with a lady at court. He's a bit naive, but has a good heart.
Keep warm and cozy by wearing a gray sweater, black puffer vest, jeans, jeweled hat, and red cap toe flats. Or for a Renaissance look, wear a buttoned gray jacket, white flowy blouse, key necklace, black jeans, and black thigh high boots.
Sebastian "Bash"
Sebastian "Bash" (Torrance Coombs) is the roguish half-brother of Francis, and despite being illegitimate is the king's favorite. Though he knows Mary is intended for Francis, Bash develops feeling for her.
For a bad ass look, wear an all-black outfit consisting of a leather jacket, sweater dress, tassel necklace, and buckle boots. Or wear an outfit full of neutrals: brown leather jacket, cream striped sweater, gray jeans, and leopard print flats.
Ladies in Waiting
Mary's ladies-in-waiting, Lola (Anna Popplewell), Kenna (Caitlin Stasey), Greer (Celina Sinden), and Aylee (Jenessa Grant), meet Mary at the French court after being away from their queen for many years. Each have their own stories: Lola's beau is manipulated by the Queen of France, Kenna starts having an affair with the king, and Greer tries to get married to a prince of Portugal.
Dress up in jewels by wearing a plum-toned maxi dress, sequin headband, jeweled bracelet and earrings, and black flats. Or for a modern interpretation, go for a emerald velvet blazer, white lace dress, studded belt, star earrings, and black pointed heels.

ReplyDeleteIt's a great show! I thought it might be cheesy because it's a CW show, but it's actually well-acted and dramatic, but not too melodramatic. And of course the clothes, oh my the clothes!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pooja!
ReplyDeleteThe CW is cheesy on a pretty regular basis, I think. But then shows like Supernatural come out of left field and are incredible. I'll have to give it a shot!
ReplyDeleteGreat selections girlie. I'm never seen this but now I'm intrigued!
