Review: Firmoo Glasses

I was recently contacted by Firmoo to get a free pair of glasses and of course I was super excited! I love my glasses, but it's always nice having an extra pair and being able to switch between them. Although I wanted my new glasses in tortoise, they didn't have it when I was ordering, so I picked them in a lovely shade of brown instead.

It was so easy to order my glasses: I already had my prescription on hand and my mom measured my pupilary distance (which is important since each person's PD is different), and then I clicked to get them. All I had to do was wait. After the order went through, I was a little surprised to see that the glasses were coming from China and it took over two weeks for me to receive them.

When they did arrive not only did I get the glasses, but it came with a hard case, a yellow glasses-cleaning cloth, and a little screwdriver in order to repair my glasses. Very handy!

Firmoo has a great program: the First Pair Free program! Get your first pair of glasses for free by only paying for shipping. Sounds like a great deal to me! They also have a virtual try-on system to ensure that the glasses will fit your face.

Firmoo also has a fashion eyewear community called Firmoo+ that focuses on styling eyewear and clothes.

Inspired By: March's Best Selling Book Covers

I haven't been doing much reading outside of workshopping my classmates' novels and reading for American Studies, though I've been skimming through A Storm of Swords, so it's fun to talk about other books for a change.

The Storyteller
Inspired By: The Storyteller Cover

Written by Jodi Picoult, this novel tells the story of Sage Singer, a baker who is trying to escape her mother's death. Josef Weber, an eldery man in Sage's support group, comes by the bakery and the two start a friendship. However, one day Josef reveals a shameful secret to Sage and asks her for a favor, but if she accepts she could moral and legal repercussions.

To dress like this pastel-colored cover, put on a pale purple dress, denim jacket, light blue flats, floral headband, and earrings in the shapes of a cupcake and teacup. Or wear a black and white shirt, floral jacket, purple jeans, and wedges.

Buy the book: B&N | Amazon

A Week in Winter
Inspired By: A Week in Winter Cover
Written by Maeve Binchy, this novel follows Chicky Starr after she decides to turn an old mansion into a peaceful hotel by the sea in Stoneybridge, a small town in Ireland. Everyone thinks she's crazy, but she gets help from Rigger, a bad boy handy man, and Orla, her niece. When she opens Stone House, she welcomes an unusual array of guests.

Look like the cozy cover by wearing a gray top, green military vest, high-low ombre skirt, pretty blue jewels, and nude heels. Or wear a bright yellow sweater, ombre jeans, a layered necklace, moon ring, and brown flats.

Frost Burned
Inspired By: Frost Burned Cover
Written by Patricia Briggs, Frost Burned is the 7th novel in the Mercy Thompson series. In this book, Mercy's life has gone under a major change; she's now Adam Hauptman's mate, the Alpha of a local werewolf pack, and stepmother to Jesse, which brings some normalcy to her life. But one day neither Mercy nor Jesse can reach Adam; it turns out that the whole pack has been abducted.

To look like the bad ass cover, slip on a graphic tee with the phases of the moon, burgandy faux leather vest, black jeans, black booties, and tribal print bracelet. Or dress a little fancier by wearing a cool blazer, burgandy tee, distressed jeans, and high heeled booties.

The Chance
Inspired By: The Chance Cover
Written by Karen Kingsbury, this is a heartwarming story about childhood friends: the day before teenage Ellie moved from Georgia to California, she and her best friend Nolan wrote letters to each other and buried them in a rusty box beneath an ancient oak tree. The plan was to go back and unearth them eleven years later, but as the date approaches both find that their lives have drastically changed. But meeting again may help make sense of their personal struggles and find out if it's too late for another chance at love.

Dress like the cover by weearing shades of green: a mint cardigan, a white #heartthis tee, watercolor skirt, orange necklace, and bow nude pumps. Or wear a green tunic, forest green pants, ombre flats, and love letter necklace.

One Dress, Two Ways || The Skater

I'm totally in love with this dress! It's the Skater dress in Shauna Miller's Penny Chic line (each one is only $20!). I love the fit and flare shape, and the lace cap sleeves make it extra special in my book. The dress is soft, wrinke-free, and fits very well.

I wanted to dress it down a little, so I paired with with a red cardigan, cross-body bag, side braid, and leopard print flats with a red bow. Making this dress casual was a bit of a challenge because it's black and knee-length (at least for a shorty like me). I think if it was a bright color it would be easier to wear casually, but of course a LBD (little black dress) is perfect for every occasion!

This dress is already pretty fancy, so it was easy to spruce it up with a chunky necklace, a navy blazer for a professional setting, wavy hair, sequin clutch, and two-tone heels. I also put on my favorite Revlon berry stain.

I love these satin red and fuschia ShoeMint pumps, but the heel is 4 inches high, so they're a bit tall for me. I'm going to pretend that if I keep walking in them one day I'll get better at it (or at least get used to it).

If you're wondering, I wasn't asked to do this post. I just love this dress!

Inspired By: Game of Thrones

Based on the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin, this HBO show is an epic fantasy chronicling the lives of the men and women who live in Westeros and Essos. It follows three main stories: the war for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms between the Starks, Baratheons, and Lannisters; Daenerys Targaryen's ambition to cross the sea to Westeros and reclaim the throne with the help of her dragons; and the rising threat of the supernatural beings called the Others beyond the Wall in the north.

The third season of the show returns March 31st! So excited to get back into the all the betrayal, maniputation, sword-fighting, sex, violence, drama, and magic.

*Spoilers Ahead*

Ned Stark, Robb Stark & Jon Snow
Inspired By: Game of Thrones -- Ned, Robb & Jon

Ned Stark (Sean Bean) was the admired Lord of Winterfell. He briefly served as the Hand of the King to Robert Baratheon, but then discovered that Robert's son Joffrey wasn't related to him by blood and was beheaded. Eldest child to Ned and Catelyn, Robb (Richard Madden) is next to be Lord of Winterfell, but after hearing of his father's death declares war and becomes King of the North. Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is the bastard son of Ned. He believes in being honorable, and he joins the rank of the Night's Watch, who guard the Wall (which seperates the Seven Kingdoms from the wildings in the north).

To dress like Ned and Robb, wear a faux fur-trim collar coat, gray sweater, jeans, and glitter booties. Rock a shield ring for the swords they carry, or a wolf ring since the direwolf is on their coat of arms. The Night's Watch wear all black, so dress in a moto jacket, spiked sweater, panel leggings, and boots. Wear a bird ring since men of the Night's Watch are called "crows."

Catelyn, Sansa & Arya Stark
Inspired By: Game of Thrones -- Catelyn, Sansa & Arya
Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley) is Ned Stark's widowed wife; she is strong and fiercely protective of her children. Sansa (Sophie Turner) is the second oldest child; she is beautiful and selfish and has a crush on Joffrey instantly, but doesn't see what he's truly like until it's too late. Arya (Maisie Williams) is the third child; she's resourceful and wild, and is currently trying to make her way North to her family by pretending to be a boy.

Catelyn and Sansa have a more feminine style; to dress like them wear a floral sweater, flowy chiffon dress, cute wedges, and a ring with wolf ears. Arya has a tomboy-like style; try a hooded leather jacket, brown t-shirt, jeans, and nude booties. Put on a sharp ring since Arya carries a dagger named Needle.

Robert, Stannis & Joffrey Baratheon
Inspired By: Game of Thrones -- Robert, Stannis & Joffrey
Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) was King of the Seven Kingdoms for fifteen years and married to Cersei before being killed after a hunting trip. Stannis (Stephen Dillane) is Robert's younger brother and a harsh man; he claims the throne is his, but Joffrey (Jack Gleeson), Robert's illegitamate son, becomes king. Joffrey is vicious and sadistic. He's the product of incest between Jaime and Cersei, and therefore has no right to the throne, but only a few know this.

At one point, all three men call themselves king, so to dress regally wear a leather-panel blazer, dark blue dress, faux fur collar, strappy wedges, and crown ring. Or instead wear a lace shirt, brocade jeans, cap toe heels, and a floral crown.

Tyrion & Jaime Lannister & Cersei Baratheon
Inspired By: Game of Thrones -- Tyrion, Jaime & Cersei
Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), nicknamed the Imp, is a dwarf; he's intelligent and sharp-tongued, but also an outcast because of his stature. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is a skilled knight of the Kingsguard; he is arrogant and impulsive, and he is twins with Cersei (Lena Heady), who is beautiful but manipulative. She is the widowed wife of Robert Baratheon, but all three of her children are fathered by Jaime.

Dress like the Lannister men by wearing a red blouse since it is the color of their House, a sequin vest for the shields they wear, brown jeans, tall boots, and a lion ring since a golden lion is on their coat of arms. Or dress like Cersei by wearing a patterned blazer, red ruffled dress, ankle strap heels, and a lion necklace.

Daenerys Targaryen, Melisandre & Ygritte
Inspired By: Game of Thrones -- Daenerys, Melisandre & Ygritte
Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) was in an arranged marriage to Khal Drogo, a Dothraki warlord, but after his death and the birth of her three dragons, she decided it was time to take back the Iron Throne and become Queen of the Seven Kingdoms (since her father ruled before Robert). She is currently on her way to do just that. Melisandre (Carice van Houten) is a priestess of R'hllor and has magical abilities; she serves Stannis and becomes his most trusted advisor. Ygritte (Rose Leslie) is a wilding woman who lives north of the Wall; she is fierce and headstrong and a warrior.

Dress like Daenerys by wearing a green dress, army vest, booties, and dragon jewelry since she not only has dragons, but they are in the Targaryen coat of arms. To look like Melisandre, dress in red since it's the only color a priestess wears; put on a wine-colored shirt, red chiffon skirt, red necklace, and metallic belt. Or to dress like Ygritte, don a white sweater and white jeans for the snow she's surrounded by, beige boots, and rose gold shield ring since she's a warrior.
