Life Lately: Tidbits, A Roadtrip & A Wedding

These pictures are from the last few weeks of August. The dregs of summer included bowling with friends, going to a bar to see someone sing, lots of reading, a quick roadtrip to Vermont, and a beautiful wedding in a barn...

Get Ready For Fall TV

How excited are you for the fall TV season? Besides all the awesome new shows coming (check out all the new drama, sci-fi/fantasy/horror, and comedy shows), I'm really, really giddy over the return of my old favorites. Castle, Revenge, Hart of Dixie, The Vampire Diaries, and Dexter among many others.
So that I know you'll all be comfy while watching your favorite shows, here are some slippers to keep your toes warm, lights to give your room a nice ambiance, and pillows to keep your back relaxed. Or pillows to hide behind if you plan on watching something scary, like American Horror Story.

New Fall TV: If You Like Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or Horror...

I like to think that sci-fi, fantasy, and horror are really an extension of drama, or maybe a fun sub-section, because these genres are just as dramatic and well-acted as the shows I posted about yesterday. But maybe that's just what I think.

Not as many sci-fi, fantasy, or horror shows, but that's usually how it is every fall.

New Fall TV: If You Like Drama...

With fall TV just around the corner (I can't wait!), I figured I would dedicate a week to showcasing the best new shows coming to a couch near you! And boy is there a lot of them. So dust off your remote controller and fluff up that pillow, you might be sitting in your favorite armchair a lot come September.

So let's just get the biggest group out of the way. Drama seems to be most people's favorite since there are so many shows of this genre (ie. doctor, cop, lawyer, etc.), both on TV right now and coming soon.

Note: these posts will be divided into two sections "fall" (season starts September or October) and "midseason" (season starts in January).

FALL:
Chicago Fire

  • If You Like: Rescue Me

I can't wait for fall! I love cool breezes, changing leaves, having a warm drink on a chilly day, pumpkin pie, cheeks that are pink from the wind, and wearing cozy cardigans and snuggly scarfs.

Outfit: The Power of Painkillers

Several hours before these pictures were taken, I was curled up into a ball on my bed wearing leggings and a loose tank top. I didn't want to do anything or go anywhere. I just wanted my painkillers to kick in. Yep, it was that time of the month. After a little while, the pain receeded and I was back to being human again. I'm sure all know what I'm talking about.

Since it was my little sister's birthday dinner that night I put on a real outfit. At first I was like, "Ugh, I don't want to wear clothes," but I don't think they would've let me into the restaurant wearing slippers. But putting on a top and jeans made me feel instantly better. Go figure.

New Buys: Thrifted Finds

Last Tuesday, my mom was on vacation and the two of us went thift store shopping at this little place that we always go to. Twice a year they have a shopaholic's dream -- a bag sale. You take a bag and stuff the clothes you want into it and the whole bag is $12. You're literally paying for a whole bag of clothes for only $12! And you can take as many bags as you want. And they're the big paper bags from Trader Joe's, not small bags. Isn't it great?

I got one bag of clothes, but my mom got three. One of clothes for her (she got some fantastic things!) and two for baby clothes. She likes having it to give to friends and family, and sometimes to sell at flea markets.

Here's my amazing haul...
 Forever 21 Fuschia Skinny Jeans

 Lush Tank Top

Striped Back Top (no tag)

 H&M Abstract Print Top

 Wet Seal Loose Print Jacket

Topshop Floral Dress

 I (Heart) Justice Jean Shorts

 Wallflower Jean Shorts

Forever 21 Red Shorts

I think I managed to score some pretty great things!
What do you think? Do you like going thrifting or is only new clothes for you?

Inspiration: School Girl Prepster

I'm not preppy by any stretch, but with school and autumn right around the corner I find myself lusting after sweaters paired with collared shirts, camel-colored coats, stripes, plaid, and elbow-patched blazers. Speaking of elbow patches, I would love to DIY a heart-shaped elbow patch onto a cardigan. Anyone else? No, just me? That's cool.

What looks are you craving for fall?

Quote

I love this quote. Definitely one of my favorites. It makes me smile every. single. time.

But I also like that this quote makes me feel like an evil villain from a movie. I'm a writer and I would love it if people one day fell into my trap by staying up late reading my novel. And it is true that writer's are terrible people. The things we do to our characters. It really is horrible. I've killed people, one person was attacked by gang, another by a werewolf, two had to go on the run, and another guy had his heart broken. See? We're quite evil.

Anyway, Happy Friday! Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Gifts for History Geeks

History is of course very long, so one person's favorite period may be another's least favorite, but I think they can all agree that history is important. When getting a gift for a history buff start wirh their favorite time period (Middle Ages) or country (Chinese history) or war (WWII) and narrow it down from there.

DIY: Striped T-Shirt

Maybe it's the plethora of striped shirts that I've seen on blogs and in stores lately, but I've been wanting to DIY a colorful striped tee for a while. I like wearing stripes in the fall with a comfy cardigan, and the colors I choose work well I think for the cooler weather. The only thing I would change if I do this again is that I would use fabric paint instead of acrylic paint.

Step 1: Align the tape in stripes on your shirt. You can make the stripes as thick or as thin as you like. I started by taping only the front. (We'll get to the back later.)

Step 2: Put a piece of wood or cardboard inside the shirt, just in case the fabric is thin, and then start painting your stripes. I painted two of my stripes blue and the rest of them copper. You can paint whatever colors you like -- all of them pink or orange or you can paint the rainbow.
