Inspired By: The Paradise

The Paradise is a historical costume drama that takes place in 1875 in England and centers around the first British department store called The Paradise and the people that work there: John Moray, the owner, his business assistant, and the shopgirls, as well as the shopkeepers on the street and the woman who is determined to marry Moray.

Denise Lovett

{The Paradise}

Denise (Joanna Vanderham) comes to stay with her uncle Edmund, who owns a struggling shop across the street from The Paradise, but she takes a job as a shopgirl at the department store at her uncle's insistence. Denise is intelligent and feisty and has fresh ideas for the department store, which leads to Moray taking an interest in her.

When she first comes to the store she wears a floral dress, so wear a ditsy floral print dress, a gray beanie, tights, and heeled oxfords. Or dress like Denise after she gets new attire: a colorblock pleated dress, a teal scarf, bangles, and flat oxfords. 

John Moray

John Moray (Emun Elliot) is the owner of The Paradise. The widower still struggles with his wife's death, but he likes all of the ideas that Denise has and sees that she is invested in the department store like he is. 

For something a little more business casual, put on a long brown cardigan, a white blouse, brown pants, a heart pin, and red loafers. Or put on a brown floral dress with bow rings and black pumps.

Katherine Glendenning

Katherine Glendenning (Elaine Cassidy) is a young woman who wants to marry Moray and whose father owns the street that The Paradise is on, so Moray is financially dependent on Lord Glendenning. She's a rich woman and has a habit of getting what she wants. 

Put on a dressed up casual look: a white side zipper sweater, white jeans, a purple beanie, purple pumps, and a pale pink watch. Or wear a loose purple dress, a heart locket necklace, a red belt, and black pointed flats. 

Miss Audrey & Clara

Miss Audrey (Sarah Lancashire) is the head of the Ladieswear department in the store; she's strict but has all the girls well-being in mind. One of the shopgirls is Clara (Sonya Cassidy), who has a troubled past and feels cast aside when Denise joins the staff of The Paradise. 

Wear an outfit perfect for the office: a black loose blazer, a purple sheath dress, a brooch, and gold glitter heels. Or wear something fun and casual, like what Clara wears when she goes dancing: a black necklace, a gray sweater, a floral pencil skirt, and gray flats.
