My Writing: Stagnant {Blank Verse Poem}

After tomorrow, it's spring break! Unfortunately for me (but fortunately for my bank account), I'll be working most of the week. I'm sitting at the front desk and answering phones while the receptionist (who's also my mom) is on vacation, so really she's getting more of a vacation than I am.

Stagnant

You said a tiger cannot change its stripes,
but I am not who I was yesterday
and tomorrow I will not be the same
as who I am today. What is so wrong
about change? Why is it a dirty word?

Change leaves a bad taste in your mouth; to me
it tastes like candy. I don’t want to be
who I am today in twenty years’ time.
You are scared, but you forget I am too.

You forget that sometimes it is not change
it is growth. But still, still you are stagnant.
You can stay a mirror image of you,
but I will not remain identical.
I’ll become better every single day.

Happy Wednesday!

    1. Although change is scary, I like that things are different and don't remain the same. Then life would be boring.

  4. Reading this poem really took me back - I feel like in university it becomes really clear that there are two types of people; those who fear change and those who embrace it. If you embrace it and find that those around you don't, it's so frustrating!

Have a great spring break - being a receptionist is actually pretty fun, it's one of my favourite jobs I've ever done :)

    1. So true! Yeah, I've been a semi-receptionist for the past 4-ish years and it's great!

  5. Nice! I suppose we are all becoming more and more ourselves whether we want to acknowledge it or not. I, for one, like a little change.
