DIY: Striped Camera Strap

This is one of my favorite DIYs that I've done so far! It's super, super easy to do and doesn't require much of your time. I love this DIY because my camera is something I used all the time, so of course I'm always using the camera strap. But the strap that came with the camera is plain and boring. {A few months ago, I bought a cool tribal one but the straps were too big to put through the metal loops. So sad.}
I wanted to spice up the strap, so I bought five fabric paints in colors that compliment each other, and used tools I already had on hand. Read on for more!
1. Cut your painter's tape as straight as possible into strips and press them onto your camera strap as near or as far apart as you want.

2. Keep putting on your strips of tape. I spaced them apart randomly, but you can do a pattern if that's your style.

3. Paint! I also painted the stripes randomly, so either go with the flow or stick to a color pattern.

4. Let it dry for at least two hours on a flat surface, peel off the tape, and voila you have a fun, updated camera strap!

Although I wanted the lines to be straight, the strap is made of a bumpy nylon, so the painted lines came out jagged. But now I actually like it like that more than if they had been straight. It looks rustic and kind of like I did it on purpose. If your strap is made of another fabric then it will probably turn out differently.
What do you think?

  1. Very cool! I've been wanting to spice up my camera strap, too, but I haven't gotten around to actually DOING it, haha. Maybe I'll try this!
