My Writing: Haiku Poems

I never thought much of haiku poems until this past semester. I thought they were kind of stupid actually. How much of a poem could three lines really be? But the art of the haiku is in the simplicity of it: the way the words sound, the observant imagery, and in the deliberately chosen words. After all, there's only so much space you're afforded.

After writing these four haiku's for class I really started to appreciate them. I'm actually looking forward to writing more in my spare time.

The zombie arose
He gulped down steaming coffee
And turned into man.

The cherry blossom
Blooms so temporarily
But ever returns.

An emerald scarf
Flutters in the breezy wind
She longs to soar too.

A heavy downpour
Forgotten red galoshes
Very soggy socks.

Have you written any haiku's?

  7. Is it bad that I've never heard of
'haiku's before? I gotta say its
kind of original, poems in 3 lines!
Loved these samples really c: Xx

    1. No it's not bad at all! Haiku's are pretty cool! The first and third lines are 5 syllables and the second line is 7 syllables. It's difficult but fun! Thanks!

  8. I didn't write this one, but it's my favorite haiku ever:

    Haikus can be fun
but sometimes they don't make sense

  9. Dearest Sara, do you know how talented you are? I´m impressed by your haikus and I love them <3

  11. The first poem is kind of funny and cute. I really like the third one also. I experimented with writing haikus for my poetry class a while back, but I'll admit they aren't my favorite.

Hello, beautiful! Thanks for leaving a comment!
