Happy February, my friends! I'm excited that the second month of the year has finally arrived because it means awesome movies, fantastic books, and of course Valentine's Galentine's Day! I can't wait to eat my weight in conversation hearts while reading Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald, the Novel Tea book club's pick this month.
MOVIES
Jupiter Ascending
Jupiter (Mila Kunis) was born with the signs predicting that she would be destined for great things, but she leads a less than extraordinary life until Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, tracks her down and she realizes that she is royalty. However, she's not the only one fighting for the spot on the throne. (Watch the trailer.) I want to see this! It looks like a fun action-adventure with heart. (February 6)
50 Shades of Grey
Based on the novel, the movie follows innocent Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), who realizes she wants to get close to Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), an intimidating and brilliant man, but she discovers that Grey has different tastes and a need to control everything. (Watch the trailer.) I have no interest in seeing this, but in case you forgot (how could you though with the tons of commercials?) it's coming out soon. (February 13)
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Based on the comic book series, this action spy film is about a super secret organization that recruits of an unrefined by promising street kid (Taron Egerton) into the agency's competitive program as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius. Also starring Colin Firth, Michael Caine, and Samuel L. Jackson. (Watch the trailer.) Yep, I'll definitely be seeing this with my brothers!(February13)
The D.U.F.F.
Based on the book, Bianca (Mae Whitman) is a high school student who realizes that everyone knows her as the D.U.F.F. (Designated Ugly Fat Friend), so she enlists the help of Wesley (Robbie Amell), the slick jock, to reinvent herself and go after her crush, Toby (Nick Eversman). (Watch the trailer.) I read the book, which is pretty different, but the movie still looks funny and charming. (February 20)
