Inspired By: Books Turned Movies

I get really excited (maybe more like giddy) when I hear a book that I read is being turned into a movie. Of course, lots of things can go wrong -- like terrible casting, plots being changed or thrown away all together, or the movie not living up to what you imagined in your head -- but for the most part I like knowing that someone else loved this book enough to want to make it into a movie.

Of the books-to-movies below, I've read all of them except for Ender's Game. I'm hoping to get to it sometime in the fall.

P.S. -- Check out my sponsor spotlight on Of Corgis and Cocktails!

Austenland
Inspired By: Austenland
Written by Shannon Hale, Austenland is about Jane Hayes, a thirty-year-old woman who is obsessed with all things Jane Austen. In her mind, no man can compare to Mr. Darcy. When a wealthy relative dies and leaves Jane a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-loving women, Jane decides to use the time to get over her Austen obsession for good. But can she?

For a summer to fall transition look, go for a purple t-shirt, blue printed skirt, strappy booties, circular stud earrings, and a purple backpack. If you want to dress more buttoned up (like Mr. Darcy), wear a chambray blazer, a white blouse, yellow jeans, and black wedges. (Stay tuned for next week! More Austenland inspiration!) (Release Date: August 16)

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
Inspired By: City of Bones
Written by Cassandra Clare, City of Bones follows Clary Fray, an ordinary girl in NYC, who discovers she's a descendant of Shadowhunters, half-angel warriors who protect our world from demons. After Clary's mother is kidnapped, she joins forces with the Shadowhunters to find her.

Since there's a half-naked man on the cover, wear a nude dress with a metallic belt, drop earrings, nude eyeshadow, and black pointed pumps. Or if you want to dress like a tough Shadowhunter, don a black peplum top, teal scarf, distressed jeans, shield ring, and flats for running after demons. (Release Date: August 21)

Ender's Game
Inspired By: Ender's Game
Written by Orson Scott Card, in Ender's Game aliens have attacked Earth, so the world government has started training young military geniuses in the art of war. This training takes the form of "games," and Ender wins all of them, but is he smart enough to save the planet? (Yes, I've heard about Card's values, and while I don't agree with them I've read amazing things about both the book and movie. Sadly, you can't agree with everyone.)

For a futuristic look, try a peplum top, black skirt, navy necklace, silver cuff, and black pumps. Or go for a casual look inspired by the colors on the cover: chambray top, olive cargo pants, star earrings, moon ring, and beige booties. (Release Date: November 1)

Catching Fire
Inspired By: Catching Fire
Written by Suzanne Collins, Catching Fire finds Katniss having survived the Hunger Games with Peeta. It was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and President Snow. Katniss should be happy, but now she is the face of a rumored rebellion, and the Capitol is angry and seeking revenge.

For dressy look, wear a strapless red chiffon dress, black necklace, feather headband, and strappy black heels. Or if you're running from the establishment, why not wear a striped red top, black jeans, bird ring, and studded boots. (Release Date: November 22)
