Of all the movies coming out this month, Austenland is the one I'm most excited about. I read the novel a few years ago and decided to re-read it recently to remember all the fun details. If you've never heard of the book or movie, Austenland is about Jane Hayes, a woman obsessed with all things Jane Austen and wishes she could get over her infatuation with Mr. Darcy.
Jane Hayes (AKA Miss Erstwhile)
Jane Hayes (Keri Russell) is a thirty-something-year-old woman, who is pretty much in love with a fictional character -- the one and only Mr. Darcy. In the book, a wealthy relative dies and leaves her a trip to a Regency-inspired English resort, but in the movie, Jane spends all her money to go to Austenland. She's hoping to get over her obsession with Mr. Darcy.
For a modern Regency look, wear a white fedora, blue floral dress, and drop earrings, and buckle booties. Or for a bright outfit, try a pink blazer, a red maxi dress, white Converse, and your copy of Pride and Prejudice.
Martin & Henry Nobley
Martin (Bret McKenzie) is a gardener who works on the resort. Jane finds it refreshing to find someone who isn't totally immersed in the Austenland world. Mr. Henry Nobley (JJ Feild) is a stern man, but Jane sees through his tough demeanor. She wonders how much of him is real and how much of him is the character.
If you like a more bohemian look, wear a green anorak, loose white blouse, aviators, distressed jeans, and brown booties. Or if you like to dress in a more classic style, try a buttoned blazer, floral peplum top, black paneled leggings, and heeled booties.
Elizabeth Charming
Amelia Heartwright
Elizabeth Charming (Jennifer Coolidge) is a rich, middle-aged woman who pretends she's an eligible young lady. She's funny and uses words and phrases she thinks British people say, like "Spit spot!" Dress like Miss Charming by wearing a bright pink dress, sparkly collar necklace, floral scarf, and metallic cap toe heels. Or for a more subtle look, try a patterned purple dress, layered blue necklace, brown belt, and wedges.
Amelia Heartwright
Amelia Heartwright (Georgia King) is a pretty, demure young woman who has been to Austenland a few times before. She knows how the Regency world works and wants her Jane Austen romance before the trip is over.
Look like Miss Heartwright in Regency dress by going for a white maxi dress, feather headband, purple scarf, and brown flats. Or wear a pink floral dress, dangly earrings, strappy flat sandals, and pretty hair pins.
