Watch | Read | Listen {October 2014}

Hello October! Since there are so many good books coming out this month, I chose only the ones that I think you guys would be interested in most (and the ones that I'm most interested in reading too!). Oddly enough (for me at least), they're all non-fiction books.

MOVIES

Gone Girl
Based on the best selling novel, this movie is about the disappearance of Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) on her fifth year wedding anniversary. Her husband, Nick (Ben Affleck), is the first target, and his portrait of a perfect marriage slowly begins to crumble. Did Nick Dunne kill his wife? I read the book and now I have to see the movie. (October 3)

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
Based on the beloved children's book, it's about 11-year-old Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) and the worst day of his life -- a day that starts with getting gum in his hair, followed by many more calamities. Soon his parents (Jennifer Garner and Steve Carell), his brother (Dylan Minnette), and sister (Kerris Dorsey) all start having a terrible day. (October 10)

Dear White People
This satire is about race in the age of Obama. As in, having one black friend doesn't cut it anymore. This movie follows a group of African American students, particularly Samantha (Tessa Thompson) and Lionel (Tyler James Williams), as they navigate campus life and racial politics. Watch the trailer here. This movie looks hilarious and thought-provoking. (October 17)

White Bird in a Blizzard
Kat's (Shailene Woodley) perfect but haunted mother, Eve (Eva Green) one day disappears. Afterwards, Kat relishes in her new sexual freedom, but as time passes, Kat comes to grips with how deeply Eve's disappearance has affected her and her father (Christopher Meloni). (October 24)
