DIY: Cute Paper Ghosts

First off, I hope everyone on the East Coast is safe and sound.

My apartment complex lost power for 17 hours on Monday into Tuesday, and I could hear the wind howling at night, but there's not much damage near me. Unless of course you count the patch of ceiling near my bed where water leaked in from the roof somehow (my family and I live in the middle apartment, not the top floor). Now a part of the ceiling has been cut away and once they find out where the leak is coming from, it'll be patched up.

But I know that is nothing compared to the damage some people are facing and I wish them all the luck in the world right now.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

When I saw this ghost garland from Wild Olive above, I knew I wanted to replicate it somehow. I mean, c'mon, how cute are those friendly ghosts?! They just bring a smile to my face!

1. Fold two sheets or three sheets of paper over (depending on how many ghosts you want) and draw little ghost shapes. You can do whatever shape your heart desires.

2. Cut the little ghosts out.

3. With the black marker or pen draw smiling faces. I varied the smiles and faces to make them more interesting. As you'll see below, one is nerdy, one is a pirate, one has freckles, etc.

4. With the pink colored pencil, color in the mouths and make cute rosy cheeks.

5. Stick them on your front door, or window, with double stick tape and you're all done!

This project was so easy and took less than ten minutes.

Have a fun Halloween!

Outfit: Little Red Riding Hood

This is a modern Little Red Riding Hood. She still wears red, though she has put away her cloak and basket, she still visits her grandmother but drives instead of walks, and if she sees a wolf it's because she was watching an animal documentary on the Discovery Channel. But modern or no, she stills likes nature and the changing leaves.

Below is my real Red Riding Hood Costume that I'll be wearing tomorrow to go trick or treating with my little sister...

Jacket // Charlotte Russe
T-shirt // Walmart
Skirt & Belt // Forever 21
Leggings // Forever 21
Boots // Forever 21
Ring // Forever 21
Glasses // Bonlook

Costume // Ebay
Brooch // Vintage
Lipstick // New York Color's Retro Red

What are you dressing up for Halloween as?

New Buys

So I initially wrote this post on Tuesday and anticipated having a "pretty easy-going week." I think I jinxed it because then Wednesday hit. I took the car to the shop to see if I could get the front side lights fixed. The guy doesn't know why they're not working. Then he tells me that the fuel injectors are leaking gas. And then I felt the symptoms of a cold coming on.

Come Thursday, this old clunker of a car is going to cost me lots of money to fix and I have a full on cold. Life just seems to get better and better. At least I'm enjoying Cloud Atlas. There's always a silver lining, right?

Anyway, here are my latest new goodies...
 H&M Leather Sleeve Jacket {my dad got it for me. Thanks, Dad!}
I feel way too cool for school when I wear it!

Inspired By: Cloud Atlas

I've been wanting to read Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell for months and finally decided to buy it. I'm so excited to read it and then see the movie. I mentioned the movie in my Movies I Want To See (October) post, but if you're too lazy to click on over, the novel and movie are about six interwoven stories that begins in the past and follow the consequences of people's decisions into the present and future.

If you want to see the movie, it opens in theatres tomorrow!

Past
Inspired By: Cloud Atlas (Past)

{Click above for item info}

The first two stories take place in 1850 and 1931 about a man who becomes shipwrecked on an island in the Pacific and a penniless musican who works for a composer in Belgium, respectively. With a slight nod to the Victorian, don a pea coat, burgandy pencil skirt and mary jane heels, or go more casual with brown pants, a print cardigan and orange flats.

Present
Inspired By: Cloud Atlas (Present)

The next two stories take place in 1975 in California about a woman who is investigating claims about an unsafe nuclear power plant, and in the early 21st century in the UK about a 65-year-old man who must run from gangsters. Go for a more seventies vibe with a cool leather jacket, boot cut jeans and wedge boots, or stick to a 2012 look with a spiked blazer, black skinny jeans, and fun heels.

Future
Inspired By: Cloud Atlas (Future)

In the last two stories, the future has become rather bleak: in the dystopian near future in Korea, a genetically-engineered clone is interviewed before her execution, and in the post-apocalytic future in Hawaii, a man lives a primitive life after most of humanity dies in "the Fall." Get the sci-fi future look with a peplum dress, structured heels, and a colorful hair extensions, or wear a brown dress, warm sweater, and boots for a post-apocalyptic get up.

What do you think? Are you going to see the movie?
Have you read the novel?

Etsy Faves

Although I already hit my shopping budget for this month (thanks to some cute things at Delia's), I can't help but browse Etsy now and then.

Also, I've been thinking: I don't have time right now, but I've been contemplating changing what I'm selling in my Etsy shop. I've been wanting to get back to drawing for a while now. The idea that I keep coming back to is doing small drawings on book paper. What do you think of the idea? Do you think it would sell, or would it be a waste of time?
