Make Up for Girls in Glasses

I've heard many things about how to do make up when you wear glasses; some say don't wear color, some say do, some say this, some say that. There's heaps of advice out there, and while you can't and shouldn't follow everyone's advice, you should at least hear them out. Then do what you feel is best for you and what best fits to your sense of style.

Of course I want my eyes to look their best, especially when covered by glasses, but I always do what is best for me.

Here's some great make up advice for glasses wearers...

Stay In Neutral Territory: "Wearing glasses draws plenty of attention to your eyes, so it’s best to keep your eye makeup simple. Stick to neutral shades on the eyes but remember to blend a darker color into your crease for added definition. Save the bright, bold colors for your lips. Of course, don’t forget corrector and concealer—a must for all women, but especially if you’re wearing glasses."

I've heard time again that you shouldn't wear colorful eyeshadow if you wear glasses,
but unless your glasses are a bright color, do what you want! It will bring attention
to your beautiful eyes! (More on this further down the page.)
Don’t Be Afraid of Mascara: "Most of the time I suggest applying 2-3 coats of mascara to really make eyes stand out. Always use black mascara, it makes the biggest difference.

Get In Line: "Adjusting the thickness of your liner is important when you’re wearing glasses," says Brown. "If your frames are thicker, you’ll want to apply a thicker line to the upper lash line so that eyes stand out. If your frames are thinner, a softer liner works."

Pay Attention To Your Prescription: "If your prescription makes your eyes look smaller, be sure to line your eyes all the way around. I recommend using a liner that is darker than your natural eye color, since it creates a perfect contrast that defines the eyes. If your prescription makes your eyes look bigger, use a light hand when applying your eye makeup and be sure to blend everything carefully. The last thing you want your glasses to do is magnify any mistakes. Your eyeliner should be delicate and thin, with only one coat of mascara to open up the eyes."

From Styelist's Makeup for Glasses:

"The design of the frames is very important; they must sit perfectly on your face. And the style, material and color of the frames will give you an idea of what kind of makeup you want to use," says make up artist Riku Campo.

Neutral frames gives you the freedom to experiment with the full rainbow of colors.

If you go with colored frames, you'll want to keep the color to your glasses, and lightly define eyes with liner and neutral creams and taupes. And if you choose black frames, stay away from a strong smoky eye, or risk looking too "crowded" in the eye area, advises Campo.
And don't feel like you need to pile on the makeup for it to show up behind glasses.

I love the tip that you should wear concealer beneath your eyes because your glasses cast a shadow.
